James Clapper, who heads the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), which oversees all 17 intellligence agencies says there is no substantial evidence of a Russian and Wikileak connection .
Seeing that the investigation is still in process, this is not enough to conclude that there is therefore no link between Russian hacking attempts and the Wikileaks dump. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
His quote was "as far as the Wikileaks connection, the evidence there is not as strong, and we don't have good insight in to the sequencing of the releases, when that data was provided".
This quote was not to be taken as a conclusive statement to say that there is "no substantial evidence of a Russian and Wikileak connection".
I read his statement to be that the evidence is inconclusive, not that there isn't any evidence to support that assertion. But I guess you can read into that whatever you'd like to be true.![]()
