Just curious...why did Philly get so much love from Roc-a-Fella?

Post up breh I wanna believe you but I need some receipts ..
Look how irrelevant philly is in battle rap compared to
1.random detroit and st louis nikkas...

why? Styles changed...that north philly polysyllable stop and go rapidfire shyt was like the last innovation...meek came out, dumbed it down, kinda southernized it, and deaded shyt...Also, Detroit:

the real plan was to sign beans with major figgas and phillys most wanted, who jay-z also bit.

he bit most wanted worse than he did young chris.

It was really Ruff Ryders who inspired that market for Roc-a-fella if you wanna be honest. nikkas who know, know.

@Leasy

Lol. Sure he does. Don't trust Guru or statements like that.

They signed a crew, Dame was overly generous with the money and gave Beans his own label and they signed every single one of them . Oschino or someone said that he got a 900k advance and asked for more to complete his album :smh: could that possibly have been without a 360 though :whew:
Not even Eminem signed a single person on D12 to Aftermath/Shady?
Are you forgetting that they signed 2 crews? The other crew being Dipset.
Ironically though, the only hot rapper from Philly right now is managed by Roc Nation :leon:

:heh: generous with what money? what 900k advance?

they all got signed for like 15 - 20k, except for beans.

now i see why alot of yall on here dont understand why they stayed deep in the streets. yall seem to think they were living large. in reality, they signed chump-change contracts with no release dates in sight.

and i know what story youre thinking of. youre talking about peedi crakk spending his budget money. not his advance.

only 4 members of dipset got deals with rocafella. cam & juelz being the only 2 that got solo deals. and like dude said, dame was trying to build rocafella into its own def jam. he wasnt doing this stuff for charity. nor was he breaking the bank. he gets credit for looking out for his artists tho.

meek is not the only hot rapper from philly. hes just the only one thats on. and he was big before he signed to roc nation management. he just signed with them like a year or so ago.

Chris and Neef might have been signed before Beanie. Most of SP didnt even know each other before Roc-a-fella. Beans only brought in Freeway and Freeway helped bring in Peedi

young gunz before beans tho?:patrice:

but i wouldnt be surprised. cuz i always heard that neef's cousin was signed to the roc but got killed right aftwerwards.

And not coincidentally, his music began to get worse as a result of this accusation.

new yorkers love philly's style.

you need to follow your brethren. maybe that would stop you from posting ugly sneakers in your avi.

:scusthov:

“Can’t no one man put nobody on hold,” Sparks of Oschino and Sparks said about the order sent down by Sigel (see “Mixtape Monday: Beanie Sigel’s Fair-Weather Friends, Saigon’s Dose of Ice-Free Reality.”) ‘State Property’ was a movie, then they branded us. They got a clothing line and sneakers, but it wasn’t no contract where we was a group [named State Property]. We were all in individual groups. The Young Gunz was a group, me and O was a group, [Peedi] Crakk was a solo artist, Beans was a solo artist, Freeway was a solo artist. Jay-Z signed me and O. People saying Beans got everybody signed. That ain’t true.”

It wasn’t really no State Property, because [Roc-A-Fella] put everybody together,” explained Neef of the Young Gunz, who also said he and his partner were signed to Roc-A-Fella before they even met Beanie. “Nobody really knew each other. Everybody was rapping and trying to get on. They made it hard for n—as. In so many words they said, ‘You gotta come out with Mack [Beanie Sigel].’ ”

yup. beans wasnt no real boss. more like a team captain and the only one to get a respectable cut.

and this is why i laugh when people categorize squads like SP, dipset & g-unit as groups. they were just branded as such because compilations usually dont sell as much.

Interesting, I thought Beans signed them to the Roc.
Not that they were friends (or I thought they were dudes that rapped in the same circles, shouldn't have said crew), just that he was like a SVP at Roc-a-fella which is why he headed the clothing line, group and all that.

But perhaps it might've been cause he was the hottest, oldest and best :manny:.
Good to learn something new about the roc I guess.
You funny..when its something non disrespectful bout the Roc/jay you immediately take a posters word.
Let it be some bad mouthing & you ready to stab nikkas & argue all day:snoop:

This. Now once Philly gets its songwriting game together..:lupe:

the songwriting has always been there.

youre just talking about corny viacom-era radio jingles.

That's all Dame breh... he was the one who saw that Roc-A-Fella needed to be more than just " The label Jay-Z is on"... and went to Philly.

Philly got so much love from there, because it's pretty isolated in terms of what gets out of there....so capitalizing on the biggest names gave them a huge advantage as a label.

Lowkey, Dame was trying to be his own Def Jam with all the people he had signed.

looking back, it kind of was.... A lot of the shyt Dame did gets overlooked as just typical Dame shyt, but when you really look at it, and how much he fukking hated Lyor and all those execs, he would've started his own shyt in a matter of a few years...and had everything in house.

ehh, aside from beans, rocafella didnt get to sign any of the big names from philly.

none of the other state property cats were poppin before the rocafella deal. thats why they got signed for packs of skittles. they sure built their buzzes up in the streets afterwards tho. cant deny that.

but yea, cosign the rest of this. thats why i was so dissappointed that rocafella split up, and im not impressed with what jay is doing. they couldve turned into another def jam. i remember when they stopped having the def jam logos on their cds too. they couldve set the precedent for the next labels to come out and rap wouldve been in a much better place.

didnt even get my oschino & sparks album.:sadcam: that was the main album i wanted.

I heard Cassidy ghostwrote before he was signed

he used to write for eve and probably others.

and he was always known for battling.

What?

Facts vs opinions, kid.

There a difference between a dude saying that KD won the goal scoring title 4 times and another dude saying that KD is wack. One is arguable the other is a fact.

And in this case, I was crediting Jays enemy Beans for giving all these rappers dissing Jay a career and I credited Jays other enemy Dame Dash for funding it/being behind it. Other people credit Jay-z and apparently this is further evidence of me dikkriding Jay-z :what:.

Why the fukk would I argue against facts? You unknown dikkriders of mine are getting more delusional by the post. And I rarely to never shyt on any rapper, you can't find posts of me being a delusional dikkrider hating on rappers, I always try to understand why cats move how they move. Ghetto ass birdbrains get mad cause I call out their vague arguments, opinions based on nothing and on.
