Disappointed at all the Pat's/Geno's/Jim's/Ishkabibble's talk. I pass all these places every day. All average, made for tourists who just want the experience or drunken crowds stumbling around South Street. Might as well go to any cart or any pizzeria in Philly. I don't like cheesesteaks enough to eat an average one.
Some actual recommendations:
Angelo's is close ish to Geno's and Pat's and light years better. They started to have huge lines right before covid, after a Barstool review. Not sure if the lines are back, but it's worth it.
Woodrow's is close to Jim's and Ishkabibble's and isn't just coasting off a name and tradition.
If you're in center city, Cleaver's.
Just remember, a place doesn't have to be 80 years old to be the best
