Disappointed at all the Pat's/Geno's/Jim's/Ishkabibble's talk. I pass all these places every day. All average, made for tourists who just want the experience or drunken crowds stumbling around South Street. Might as well go to any cart or any pizzeria in Philly. I don't like cheesesteaks enough to eat an average one.

Some actual recommendations:

Angelo's is close ish to Geno's and Pat's and light years better. They started to have huge lines right before covid, after a Barstool review. Not sure if the lines are back, but it's worth it.

Woodrow's is close to Jim's and Ishkabibble's and isn't just coasting off a name and tradition.

If you're in center city, Cleaver's.

Just remember, a place doesn't have to be 80 years old to be the best:yeshrug:

Ive had cheesesteaks from Philly. It was highly overrated.
I will say though that I didnt do the cheese whiz.
I had real actual cheese.
But I tried 4 different places and was unimpressed every time.

Don't listen to anyone in here talking about Jims, Geno's or Pat's :mjlol:
Those are tourist traps and no one from Philly eats that shyt. I never had Pats or Genos in my life. I had jims once but the one on Cottman ave not the tourist one on South St.

Iskhabibbles and Maxes are kind of tourist spots now but Philadelphians actually eat there. Delassadros is my favorite on Ridge Ave. You can get quality jawns at most papi stores though, that's where majority ppl get they cheesesteak

And NEVER eat a cheesesteak outside of philly that's called a "Philly Steak with Cheese" :dead:. that's a telltale sign they probably not even from philly and possibly never been

There really a place called Chinks? :dwillhuh:
not anymore, they finally changed it about 7 years ago:mjlol:
its "Joe's" now but for the first 100 years it was "Chinks" until the pc police finally got to them:whoa:

Philly Is Renaming a Cheesesteak Shop Called 'Chink's'; Philly Is Not Taking It Well

Chink's was named for its original owner, whose name wasn't "Chink" but, hoo boy, did he look like one according to his grade school classmates. (The Philadelphia Inquirer notes that the late Samuel "Chink" Sherman had "almond shaped eyes.") Folks in the shop's neighborhood understand why someone, somewhere, at some point, maybe could find the well-known racial slur inappropriate. But they stop just short of admitting that it actually is.
