Actually it would. Can play up on him for the shot and not worry about him going by you.

He'd a) lose the defender off the dribble and throw up shot a directly to the side of the previous spot b) lose the defender off the dribble and drive into the paint c) get a screen.

Handchecks aren't stoppin him, especially if he gets the Jordan treatment from the refs, which he probably would.
