So I joined a boxing gym like a month ago and I'm going to start being consistent and actually get into it. I got a little discouraged at first because I have 0 experience and I suck. My punches are awkward and I couldn't properly put together a combination. I honestly didn't even know what a "5" and a "6" was :snoop:

Can Coli give me any good advice for an absolute beginner?

Any good youtube vids, articles, or links that I can use to study and get better? The only part of boxing I like right now is the conditioning part, because I can handle that. It's just the sparring that sucks because I have no idea what I'm doing, I can't even hold the pads right for my partner :snoop:

Help a breh out :damn:

sparring or holding the mitts? 2..if youre an absolute beginner there's no way in hell you should be sparring in the ring right away

some advice for a beginner

1) make sure the gym youre at has a reputable trainer that will correct you if you do something wrong.
2) repetition..the only way you will improve is repetition to develop a fundamental base..floyd mayweather himself to this day still does it to stay sharp
3) focus more on technique on how to throw a punch correctly rather than how hard you can punch; shadowboxing is still great for this
4) check you ego at the door else someone will check it for you
5) handwraps..wrap your hands..get into the habit of doing it

@SkiHatDaGawd @krackdagawd @Yuzo have anything to add brehs?

jab, jab, jab, jab, jab repeat this x1000000000

Everyone is different but once I got my jab on point the rest of my offense began to fall into place. I mean there are some physically gifted brehs out there that have gotten far without a good jab but I'm not one of them.

like @patscorpio said protect your hands!!!! This is coming from someone who has always had hand problems, protect them and don't use those struggle hand wraps get the 150, or 180 joints.

I don't know how comfortable you are in training but if you're just starting maybe hold off on sparring. If you want to move around in the ring work on defense and footwork. Have a partner throw light stuff at you and work on different types of defenses and see which one is more comfortable to you, I've always been a fan of peek a boo and high guard.

I don't know any good youtube pages I'm about to post up in this thread and see if any good ones are dropped, that's the beautiful thing about the sweet science you never stop learning :blessed:

The Gawds already dropped some jewels. The only thing that I can add is road work, road work, road work. Get that cardio and legs in supreme condition. Shadowbox DAILY and I MEAN daily, at least 3 rounds a day. Also don't forget to breathe when punching and remain loose like a noodle, pause. The best way to learn is to get your ass handed to you. You learn best, IMO, by experience so don't fret if you get beat up Because eventually you'll learn how to BOX.

Any technical questions? Feel free to ask, no questions are dumb.

@Clutch Robinson here's a pretty good website i have in my bookmarks - http://www.expertboxing.com/

if you search on that site i believe there is a good article for beginning boxers

:ohhh: bout to check this site out

also let me add in regards to your jab @Clutch Robinson (if you can't tell this is my favorite punch :sog: ) depending if your orthodox or southpaw, when you are sparring pay attention to your lead leg and how far you are from your opponent when you miss and land the jab. Always make a mental note, pretty soon you'll begin to know whether you are in position to land the jab(or miss) solely by where you lead leg is this will make your life a whooooooole lot easier.
