That sheet is outdated. Plus, a lot of those $1,000,000 plus fees are more “I can’t be bothered getting off my couch to perform unless…” tax more than what the artist is commanding when they are actively making music.

In the contractor world it’s called “fukk Me quotes”. When you’re not really interested in doing something you throw out a ridiculous price and if they say yes it’s “fukk me if I don’t take this job.”

I never understood why some of you all act like these musicians are giving away a prized asset their heirs can take over as if they can’t reinvest the proceeds (in better risk-adjusted assets if they choose) that the heirs receive anyway

Read up on the 2 Live Crew catalogue after Luke sold it for peanuts.

I’m sure whoever was consulting Timberlake knows what they are doing. But music pays off forever.

Yeah but typically one of the methods is the present value of the future cash flows and terminal value of that catalog to help you triangulate your purchase price so you’re in essence capturing the ”forever” concept

Assuming you have good representation that is.

All this catalog buying seems shady.
Sting - $300M
Springsteen - $500M
Timberlake - $100M
Bob Dylan - $400M
Stevie Nicks - $100M
Neil Young - $150M
Mick Fleetwood - $80M
etc, etc.

Spotify generated less than $10 Billion in revenue for 2021. So how are companies like Hipgnosis going to recoup their money? This is a bubble and the 401k plans invested in these companies will pay heavily for it.

They will easily make that money back over the next few years.

Spotify's revenue is irrelevant. They paid out over 7 billion in royalties last year to artist and labels. That just 1 service. Apple music etc all pay out.

Add in licenses for use in TV, movies, commercial and video games publishing is very lucrative.

Exactly this.

They are going to be selling everything from cookies to tampons with “Born in the USA”

Back in the day I went to some aging rock star singers (not Springsteen) concert with some older pawg lawyer. She had a luxury suite for her and a few girls given to them by said singer. She had just closed the deal for a vaccum company to use one of his biggest hits in a commercial.

It was his first time licensing it out to something other than a movie. Big money in this shyt.

Dudes on here have no clue how much money there is in music and publishing. You can make 5k+ for having your song played in a random CSI episode.
