I get exactly what you're saying bro

I feel his biggest talent is creating such vivid imagery with his relatively simplistic rhymes

Wayyyy random but I consider him similar to Pac in that regard
Also random but Phonte too.

Phonte said he always took the GZA rhyme "make it brief son; half short and twice strong" to heart. Phonte always tries to say super impactful shyt with few words.

The instrumentals dont feel complete

Most of the songs sound like an intro before the beat drops but the beat never drops :russ:
Might be a stupid question, but do you not like that?

It's one of those things that's a feature and not a glitch when it comes to Ka. Almost all his production sounds unfinished IMO.

It's like eating cereal with no milk.
pasta with meat but no sauce.
A cheeseburger win no bun.
Oatmeal with cold water.

It's not as appetizing.

No doubt. I'm not gonna front on that.

I've grown to appreciate it, but I do have to be in a certain mood. I can't throw on Ka projects anytime. Roc Marci is even entering that territory because his production is also getting more and more minimalist.

I hope I don't get negged because I really do love those 2 guys' work and they're some of my favorite rappers, but I also wish they'd rap over at least a little bit more traditional beats.

No your spot on about both. Anytime i put a roc on i can tell right away when someone other than him did the beat, usually animoss or alchemist but i felt his ear for samples was much better from reloaded til rosebuds pt 1 which in turn made the beats better and his minimilast production style (or lack thereof) more tolerable after repeated listens. Now roc is going OUT THERE for samples i mean way out there, which has led to a lot of weird shyt and mostly misses over hits as of lately. Roc recently produced some cats whole project i had never heard of. I peeped it...thought it was terrible. As far as ka goes he been on the minimalist style but i feel it works better for him because of his slow talk gem dropping flow and it makes the lyrics stand oout more. Which is why Ka usually beats out roc when they collab. I think roc needs to get back to choosing samples that fit in with his original content...hes not ka, and rosebuds 2 was when i felt he started to clearly change.

Listening to Honor Killed The Samurai before I jump into this

Kind of off topic but dude is doing well for himself. Don't firefighters get paid pretty well? That plus the extra rap money, he must be making good money. It's refreshing to see a rapper with an actual career:obama:

No doubt. I think he’s fairly high up the ladder too. Pun intended. I think he’s a chief or at least in some position where there’s some cats working under him.

I’ve always wondered what his firefighter pals think about his music.

I’m gonna try and say this without it seeming like I’ve lost my mind.

I wrote every day. Not raps but random thoughts, poetry, short stories, and journal entries.

Ka’s writing style when you lay the words out like you did and read them almost makes it seem like something you could write yourself.

But then you read it again, and then listen to it and realize how crazy dense it is while also being pretty accessible actually. Not accessible for morons, but for all of us in this thread ya know?

I hope this post made sense. Basically Ka kind of tricks you or lulls you by saying so much with the fewest words possible. One or two lines can hold so much.

Ironically, even though I wrote a lot, I’m not even interested in lyrics that much anymore. I mostly listen to new projects or artists based on the production. I’m a sample/beat nerd. But Ka’s pen game is fukkin incredible.
:picard:

:wow:

Agreed, he throws in a healthy sprinkling of punchline setups & double entendre schemes for rewindability but when it comes down to it, he cares more about the economy of words and making his point crystal clear. He'll never give you a lyrical miracle track, he writes like he has no words to waste and must get his points across :wow: The craftiness that keeps his work from getting stale comes from his ability to frame his own story within vastly different contexts that translate to richly textured concept albums with as many personal stories & anecdotes as there is allegory and metaphors you only understand if you know the source material that he's referencing well :banderas:

I ain't gon lie, as a rap writer myself at times I listen to his rhymes from a competition point of view :lolbron: I actually really value that shyt though because he one of the few making music rn that inspires me to always strive to step my bars up. There's always room for improvement and his latest album is his best work hands down :wow:
