In all likelihood the picks sitting behind the Whiners current starters aren't as good as the starters now. They might never be as good. I do however think SF can win with a high powered offence and an above average defense.

He'll eat up 17-20 million, which still puts SF in dire straits so far as the cap is concerned. They only have 8 million in cap space as it stands. They have to restructure, trade or release players. Crabtree and Aldon still have to get paid. Aldon has incredible production in that defense so I expect he'll want at least 10 mill after 2015. But I guess that's 2 seasons away. It's doable.

Alex Smith was bust status. You give him defense and running game and all of a sudden he has the best winning percentage the last 3 years. You will have an easier time finding another QB (which you already did once) than you will trying to replenish everything else.
