you know my answer well enough, not sure why you're asking me rhetorical questions

Who should they have gone after? I know your stance but it doesn't always apply in every case.

grimes was one of the top cbs in the league last year, but hes "mediocre". the falcons overpaid for a mediocre qb, so they went that route instead. turned out great for them, 5 mil per win last season

Grimes was coming off an Achilles injury and was given a one year "show me" deal from Miami. Matt Ryan's contract had absolutely nothing to do with the Falcons letting him walk. If you want to argue thy should have matched Miami's deal go ahead...but stop pushing this false narrative.

In that case, there's no other alternative but to trade Ryan. Would you trade Ryan rather than pay him?

I might.

And if I had a suitable replacement for Kaepernickel, I'd trade him too and draft the top QB next year. Connor Cook looks good :yeshrug:
of course Id trade ryan. I value picks a lot. Id trade tom brady or peyton right now for a couple of 1st rounders, zero questions asked

the thing is, JLova is right in that fans are stupid. they want overnight magical changes. if a dysfunctional team doesnt draft a qb, it 'looks' to them like team isnt trying, because they sincerely believe a good enough qb will solve all the problems

as a GM you have to look ahead. in reality, it didnt matter whether or not falcons had ryan last season. it wont matter that cowboys will have romo, because they just arent a good team. and if you arent a good enough team, it doesnt make sense to overpay anyone, your #1 focus should be on building a good VALUE and talent team

the illusion of competitiveness is merely an illusion. GMs are too afraid to let 'good enough' qbs go and instead give them more money. theyre wifing qbs for the fear of not finding another qb, when in this era finding a decent qb is easier than ever.

time for the owners to step and set a mark at what one player can make, it shouldnt be over 12-15% of total cap

or

these contracts are going to get so ridiculous a qb will be making 30m a year pretty soon

gms wanna keep their jobs

look at kaeps draft, when you draft a qb your hc/gm are attached to the hips to them. the ones who drafted gabbert, ponder and locker have been fired for the most part. lewis might be next if dalton cant win a playoff game

finding a qb is not that easy, thats the most difficult position to evaluate.

sure it does. it applies in any and every case otherwise its not really a stance

Im against any overpaying over the value. if you have to ask 'whats the alternative' you're not thinking hard enough about the value. value includes alternative options

if I was packers GM, and arod walked up and said he wants 30m Id show him the door, thank him for everything and remind him that old man favre was replaced by him and the GOAT qb joe montana was sent packing to KC

they rightfully lost their jobs because they reached for qbs like gabbert, ponder etc when those teams had huge holes everywhere to plug. qb lust is why they lost their job.

But I'm talking in this situation. Who would you get to replace Ryan? A rookie through the draft? If ARod asked for 30M, I'd sign him. Arguably best QB in the game.
