Respect the good & understand the bad
John oliver just had a segment about bail
its fukked up system

Didn't watch the video but apparently bail only lasts one year. Since my case took two we had to pay it twice. You don't get it back either. It cost us $16k just to keep me out during that time. My entire case ended up being about $70k when all was said and done.

Guilty/dismissed/innocent...I always heard you get ur money back.I know I got my money back minus fee and my cousin pleaded guilty. You need to look into your city comptroller or bails bondmen

You only get it back if you put up the full amount.

You pay a percentage of the bail amount to the bond company for them to issue the bond. No matter what happens in the case - even if you are acquitted, charges dismissed or totally innocent, you don't get that payment back.

If you use a bondsmen, you pay 10-15% of the bond and you don't get that money back. If you pay the full bond amount you SHOULD get it back when you show up to court.

Hmm, my bail was $25K, my father paid $2,500 and he got it back after the case was over. Of course I had to plead guilty..

First offense and if he didn't kick out the money I would've had to sit in there for 1 1/2yrs for a simple fight...

This kid deserves the same national attention as Freddie Grey, Mike Brown & Trayvon Martin.

Kalief will not get a national debate at the same level as those guys because there is no ambiguity in this case. Like I said, cacs and c00ns are not touching this because this is blatantly symbolic of an evil system and an unending historical basis for blacks that people think have gone away. And no ratings for TV networks because it doesn't stir up an uproar and a political fight that people can jump in and scream "he was a thug!" , apologize for cops, and bring up black "statistics" ad nauseam and preach colorblindness.

Did he pay a bondsman or to the court?

The court.. I was going to say " we don't do that bondsman stuff over here" but it's not like I'm a career criminal here.. Lol

As far as I know it's always been 10% no matter who pays it..

Ok, well that's why you got it back. If you use a bondsman you won't.

This. In the article or the clip he said if you let them do it one time they'll continue to do. He was going to get that treatment regardless if he fought back or not..

3 years of knowing you are innocent and having to deal with that bullshyt, I'm sure dude went to sleep a couple of times thinking this was one big nightmare, just to wake up and see those walls closing in on him. As I said in another thread, jail only affects the ones not about that life.
