people keep forgetting ICE isnt an old institution of american policy. it was established in 2005 as part of the dumb fearmongering of the war on terror.
its very unusual for a country to have a specific branch of government like ICE, normally those responsibilities would fall under a larger branch.

I think the problem is that the slogan doesn't include this nuance.

The issue is that at the moment, most people are unaware of the history. At this point ICE is thought in I bet you 90% of the population's mind as being synonmous with immigration enforcement. When people hear Abandon ICE they hear Abandon immigration enforcement.

More needs to be done to get the nuance of the slogan out there but the slogan is all most people are hearing which I would like to see the stats on as far as support .

Dems who play that Disband ICE game are fukking stupid. This is the logical conclusion to such a dumb policy statement. Slippery slope that leads to one upsmanship.
:umad: Nah you keep you keep pushing this narrative

Every time you mention ICE you talk about how the abolish ICE stance is stupid:

but do we see you talking about the rapes :jbhmm:
You talking about the children in concentration camps? :patrice:
You talking about the murders at the hands of CBP or ICE agents? :mjpls:

You talking about the people dying of preventable causes in jail? :lupe:

You talking about the American citizens that are being detained because ICE doesn't believe they're citizens and doesn't trust their proof of documentation? :childplease:

Nah. :camby:

Nah. Dead that. The nuance is in y'all putting effort into learning about ICE.

I mean my god, we quite literally have concentration camps set up and people still need more hand holding? :wtf:

So what will abolishing ICE do to fix all that? Immigration enforcement will still be done by some agency, just like it was before ICE.

Why not just focus on stopping their abuses instead of saying 'abolish ICE', which might make people think you're saying not to enforce immigration law period? Won't the agency that takes over its role just continue the same abuses under a new name?

breh you're smarter than this.

it's like saying we should abolish police. but no one is foolish enough to make such a statement b/c we recognize there is a place in society for these agencies, but that doesn't mean we should overlook ANY of the abuses that take place. if the argument was that we need to investigate the decision making process/leadership of ICE, or hold their agents accountable when shyt goes left - the VAST majority of people in this country would be behind you.

by yelling "ABOLISH ICE" all you do is give cover to people that don't give a fuk about the rapes, concentration camps and deaths. you allow them to present a very powerful binary choice to the people. one that you'll never win because the vast majority of people, even those who are very sympathetic to immigrants, even the undocumented, still believe that immigration laws should be enforced etc.
