I wasn't speaking about lyrical ability. Outside of LR, Kanye has always been mediocre in that aspect. I'm talking vocally. His voice is uninteresting. Drugged out Wayne had an interesting voice. Kurt Cobain had an interesting voice. Prince has an interesting voice. Kanye is a stand in prop as a vocalist. He is useless and the only way he can make up for it is lyrically. I get bored of his voice like I do Lupe or Fabulous or Meek Mill yelling but those dudes have other aspects to make up for it.

I also hated gorgeous. Like I said 5 or so tracks were amazing but Illmatic was 10 tracks no filler of perfection. I aint so liberal with what I call a classic.
I think all the vocal manipulation, the filter on gorgeous, the aggressiveness of monster/power, runaway, well not just the album but in his career, his passion often shines through anyways or he utilizes studio tools o make his voice more interesting

I'm a big fan of these rappers now like chance future danny kendrick etc who are pushing boundaries vocally as well

I won't pretend to like the deadpan deliver on dark fantasy or so appalled, that always kind of threw those verse of his off for me, I do like dark fantasy at points tho, the respark rebuild part is hot to me, but I get what you're saying his voice isn't unique

But I can' t get jiggy with that 88 keys filter effect on gorgeous and that Cudi hook :pacspit:

I can't argue with people calling it a classic because it is above average

Sh*t ain't classic. Straight Manhattan elevator music.

Internet is the worse thing to happen to hip-hop ever. You can find a campaign for anything on this sh*t.

The people who think MBDTF is a classic are the people who think Jeff Koons is the greatest artist alive or something like Avatar was a great movie

Glossy kitsch shyt that attempts to pander to people who take "art" serious is the lowest kind of art in general

There are about 5 god like songs on that album and the rest is dookie
I have no idea who that Jeff dude is and avatar was fukkinh garbage to me

But MBDTF is a classic in every sense of the word

I think in the future they will consider all KanYe's albums Classics in some form cause he's really is a true artist. But I honestly feel "College Dropout and Late Registration" are probably his 2 Classics. Here's how I rate his catalog:

CD - 5 MICS
LR - 5 MICS
G - 4 MICS
808's - 3.5 MICS
MBDTF - 4 MICS
Yeezus - 3.5 MICS

MBDTF was a great album, had some amazing songs and production. But if I had to be honest Ye lyrically on this wasn't the strongest and a lot of guest did outshine him. IMO, Ye hasn't made a bad album even 808's and Yeezus had artistic value.

One of his worst albums

Over produced and obnoxious to the point it overshadowed the lyrics
Ross and Nicki murdered him on his own shyt
Album sounds like someone who thinks the better the "art" the more extravagant it is. He pandered to critics with this album.

imo even better then the album was the moment in time...the hype for this album was immense, a product of kanye capitalizing off the brilliant marketing scheme of good fridays...man half of those were classic, every week the internet was on fire fiending for that new yeezy shyt, and he kept delivering hot track after track, the throwaways and posse cuts were iller then pretty much anything else going on that year

imo complaining that it's overwrought or too extravagant is just being a contrarian for the sake of being one to me, musically the album was undeniably impressive, groundbreaking at the time, prof rap shyt, thematically it's dense, and I think a lot of the craftsmanship went over people's heads

there's always going to be some weirdo old head who wants to rock to epmd or some shyt hating on this because there's a generational gap and they'll never understand, it's whatever to me at this point

This is what makes the whole album classic to me. That album defines a time period in my life very well. Me and my dudes used to post up in my mans dorm room every friday for that GOOD Friday release...:blessed: When he dropped it I had just broken up with a shorty and used to bang Runaway and Devil in a New Dress repeatedly. :wow:I remember driving to Dallas for Christmas to be with a chick I was digging and I let this whole thing play through. When Devil in a New Dress kept going and Ross hopped on it!:ohlawd:
This was the first CD I put into my Car to test the stereo before I bought it. It actually was the defining factor in what made me purchase it... now that I think about it:ohhh:

Memories Brehs...Memories and Feelings is what this album brought to me...
