Nearly everyone in the music industry has a bad deal that benefits labels more than the artist. That's not to say no artists are making money off those deals. Drake had a questionable deal and made a lot of money...as did Kanye. Having worked for a major label, the biggest vice is being comfortable. People want to feel special, taken care of, and relaxed. A major label will ensure all those things...you just don't realize until later that it's largely on your dime. The hotels, the tour manager, the transportation...everything is designed to make the artist feel like he or she is special. In reality the label is simply ensuring their product can safely get from A to B in order to make money.

The last decade has made it clear that artists don't need major labels. But the question is: are artists willing to put the work in to replace what major labels provide? Are artists willing to give up the "car port," the 5 star hotels, the studio food, etc...and if they aren't, are they willing to come out their own pockets (or take out loans) in order to restore that feeling? There's always going to be a need for someone who has money to loan, which is basically what labels do. If major labels are cut out, who steps in to finance all this? And will that person be trustworthy?

Funny how willing he is to call out racism and "modern slavery" when it directly applies to him, and not when it directly applies to the average black person. The average black person doesn't have a record contract.

Somehow it's "our" masters, though. "We" need to fight for the ownership of "our" masters. Hope anyone in this thread can walk up to his house at any given moment and demand some money out of this if he gets his shyt right. Because at the end of the day it's our masters.

But the average black person deals with racist police and policies which Kanye has spent the last few years glossing over while advocating MAGA.
You see it huh?
