I don’t understand posts like this. You saw a thread with Kanye’s name in the title, clicked on it just to say you have no interest in anything he’s saying. :gucci:

Reminds me of all these fools I see commenting on NFL or NBA posts on Facebook saying how they’re no longer watching.

Just saying his music doesn't do much for me anymore. He's whored himself out for attention. Now he's complaining he's stuck in a screwed up deal when he was focused on being Donald Trump's lap dog. He's lost.

Maybe he simply wants to own what he created. Why do THEY need to own shyt we created? They pass it down to their families and come into the world rich without doing any of the work.

True - if it sells.

But I figure they keep a portion of it because of all the marketing and money put in.

Are there any other reasons to own a master other than what I stated - selling tracks. And you stated keeping it in the family - earning income off it/pride of work.

What are reasons to own masters?

Anyone Im looking for input.

As an artist who sells music, I would totally sell masters to have $5 million do I can make new music and keep masters for that.

But look at old books.

Copyrights get opened and public domain after 50 plus years or so unless claimed.

What happens to old music from the 1800s or classical music?

Yes If I had classic work and my kids didn't earn income someone else's did yes I'd be bothered.

But if I had $5 million living it be better.

Prince's whole business and finances were a complete mess when he died.

Yes artists fight a system but if it wasn't for that machine no one would know them.

You know Prince once manufactured like 50,000 vinyl records of an album - and had them all destroyed the week before release save a few? That's destructive.

Its a good move. Putting public pressure on the label to deal in good faith or at least, a better bargaining price. This isn't necessarily a sign of his liquidity, just leverage. Companies do it all the time, its viewed cynically because its kanye and hes sporadic.

On the nas narration, I damn hope he got his consent to do so and its not copy and paste job.

He’s fighting against slavery (which he said is a choice) and being the New aged Nat Turner (worth hundreds of millions) so he can secure his masters so he can benefit his (white) family :dwillhuh:

Dope.

I figure again if he has $5 million why even bother owning masters?

Once you own masters you can sell them and big profit? The question is - will they sell - with so much new music out daily - will Kanye songs be licensed to movies/commercials in the future - amongst all the new artists and competition coming out?

I figure owning masters you can sell your work in many ways. But that;s the thing it must sell.

What are all the positives of owning masters other than that?
Owning the shyt you yourself created. Its hard to put a value on that. Having that in your family.

Worth noting that Kanye will probably never tour again because no entertainment/tour agency will give him money after the Pablo fiasco. Hov got him a loan with a personal guarantee and he still fukked it up. That’s why he’s doing church and outdoors stuff...he can’t do any real venues.

He’s spending crazy money financing clothes no one buys. If he gets divorced and no longer has Kardashian money to save him, it’s a wrap.
The Coli y’all get out his pockets self made billionaire

I agree. That point was brought up, but I thought on it more.

It just feels right owning it.

If labels do a win/win cool. The issue arises I feel when they take excessively more after all costs involved.

I find it's two ways. Artists have to understand the positives of being on majors as well.

They facilitate alot!
Music videos
Interviews
Press
Manufacturing
Graphic design
DVD authoring
Stage
Photography

As an indie - you eat up all those costs and have to profit.

TLC I believe had a true horrible contract.
I don't know the details, but they earned like $50,000 each off their biggest albums.

That's a problem.

Artists got smart.

But artists can be greedy and blow money too.

DMX had crazy lucrative deals, but partied and went to jail cause of his own decisions.

Dr. Dre is good money wise.
Same as Ice T, Eminem, Jay Z.

They all seem so quiet and humble. And Professional about everything.
