i dont think the big issue with him is that he'd drop the cd format. the bigger issue is this "only on tidal" shyt when he's missing sales on the big players like apple and spotify. sounds like he's deflecting attention and im sure his label isnt happy about it

The reality is Kanye and most artists probably don't make much from album sales and streaming so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't release anything on CD. Def Jam on the other hand is probably like :sadbron:. They must of lost a shytload of money on TLOP

These exclusives are fukking it up in the long run. Let's get everyone on board with streaming first. Dumb shyt like Tidal exclusives is just confusing dumb people (most people are dumb)

In all seriousness a lot of cats are starting to go the vinyl and digital only route. Stones Throw and Rhymesayers are 2 of the largest indie labels in hip-hop and they've been having a lot of success with vinyl. Alchemist just started ALC Records and is only releasing vinyl and digital. Vinyl sales for music in general are higher than they've ever been.

Nobody wants CDs anymore. Vinyl is still sort of a niche audience but it's bigger than a CD audience. I've actually heard some artists are releasing stuff on cassette, trying to bring that back. I don't think that will do as well though.
