Yep, shyt is too much black or white, throwing the infinite shades of gray in between in the bushes.
If he's pro-black, he must be completely anti-white or at least be Malcolm X.
If he's mad at corporations, he must be completely against everything corporations do forever (and in the past he should've been against everything they do as well).
If he like designing, he must be a c00n dikkriding cac designers.
If he loves fashion, he must be promoting people to consume excessive amounts of fashion.

I don't get these things cats say, I know my life isn't that simple so I damn sure assume that Kanye's is a hell lot more complex.

The problem with artists who truly reveal more than one side of themselves is that the masses then try to evaluate that feeling based on how they perceive the artist to live in their eyes. You've seen it with Nas, Tupac, and Kanye. Drake and J. Cole have been able to handle this better but still deal with a lot of negativity for trying to show more than just the pure hip hop superman that a lot of the fanbase is looking for.

Yep when people discuss anonymously on the internet, they tend to act as if they are Jesus and know what's wrong with everyone.
Criticizing music as a listener is one thing, but criticizing people's characteristics/personalities as if you are perfect or have performed some type of extensive psychological evaluation is just

if he wasnt saying shyt this thread would have never been made...and yall wouldnt be hating on dude this hard.

Like dude above me said...life is Grey, not black and white.
This is the same hate Pac & Cube got.

Yeah I remember when Cube got the chief of LAPD pregnant and then came out with Fukk The Police...

It's exactly like that.. I be trying to tell these n1ggas that life has grey areas..

:skip:

There is a huge difference from shades of grey to living your life as the exact antithesis of the music you're trying to present...

I don't expect Kanye to be perfect by any means.. Just don't insult my intelligence brother...I realize human beings are nuanced and complicated... I can also recognize blatant bullsh1t when I see it...

:manny:

When he says "Not For Sale" what does that mean coming from him?

What does him having a bad ass wife have to do with anything he said?

His wife is bad. Yes. She likes to have sex with black men. Yes. And she is into material ish. Yes.

How does this relate to anything stated on either of his SNL songs or the snippets of what else we've heard.

This is the question that should be answered before you guys try to call him out on irrelevant personal choices.

Because music listeners, across all music genres, from the most casual listener to the music experts don't consume music as rational, objective listeners who close their eyes and simply listen to the music and judge pieces of music based on their simple aural characteristics.

Many people will tell you they indeed only listen to music, but they are lying. That attitude is very prevalent on The Coli because people like to think they give artists fair shots and they ignore everything an artist does outside of the music. But today with internet, with mass media, it's very, very hard, near impossible to simply receive music with no other background information.

Most listeners form their opinions on music based on irrational details and thoughts. They imbibe what the artists says, what the artist does, the images the artists connect with their own sounds of their music, the artists outside lives, everything an artist does, and then they rank the music and see where it fits in their own overarching value system, their beliefs, their feelings, based on those other components of what makes up an artist. Most of the time, the actual music part is a low-level deciding factor on whether a fan will like an artist.

Thing is that beyond Kanye's personal life which plays a huge role, Kanye is also brilliant at creating imagery to go along with his music. It's seen in his concerts, his videos, his album artwork etc. To act like people should take Kanye's music and the lyrics in the music by themselves is probably very far off the mark from what Kanye actually wants, and erodes everything that his career has culminated up to thus far.

So, his personal choices are all very relevant, whether people want to admit it or not. It's simply how people listen to music. It's an all-encompassing experience.

Not his music but his artistry because it is only a reflection of the life he is living and he is drawing it out for you in many different ways but he isn't expressing it to be judged but just to share his stories and those who enjoy his stories should continue to listen to him on his quest for whatever it is he wants. And those who don't can keep it moving.

As much as I dislike radio I'd rather hear the shyt on the radio than what I've heard so far from this album. :scusthov:

man you just sound mad.

Why do you all think he is anti money??
Is it the new slaves track? Dude said fukk Your corporation because he actually deals w/ corporations and their ideas on how HE should be. When did he say money was bad?

:merchant:

When did I say he said money is bad, it is the consumerism we are talking about. Please keep up.

and im tired of the ugly girl comity crying about fashion.
Its supposed to be attractive people. Fashion models arent necessary picked because they are beautiful..they want bytches that have the right measurements to fit the clothes they make for the runway. If you dont fit that, oh well...who gives a fukk.

You just are really too simple to understand what we are talking about, keep it moving.

Exactly, I’ve been participating in hiphop forums since 1998 (on sohh since 2002) and shiit is worse now than it has ever been before.

Cats literally sitting there writing dissertations about dissecting rap artists like their master’s degree depends on it.

Shiits mad corny b. Sometimes I’ll be reading all this “Kanye is such a faux pro-black artist… it’s so contrived and this and that.”

Your momma gave birth to you in as contrived as your existence ever been!

If you’re placing that much thought/emphasis in scrutinizing Ye, you ain’t getting laid (not that that’s the end all be all to your pathetic, critical lives, but let’s be Ally McBeal real – your life is quite pathetic to the point where you’re drumming up hypothesis on why Kan the Lewis Vutton Donstein is such a bi-polar, anti-establishment, non-revolutionary performer.

Just because he decides to veer off from his conventional direction and is angry at the world, somehow, this is a testament to his actions as being insincere and corny?

Fukk you and your corny ass lifestyle – on your pseudo-intellectual stances and laughable offline romances. Going to clubs and getting outdone by thugs with their dances.

Little maggots come online to vent, only to unveil their virgin selves like their opinions matter. MOTHAFUKKA YOUR OPINION SMELLS LIKE FORESKIN SMEGMA CHEESE, HOE!!!

My opinion ain’t shiit… but I’m not going to pretend like I know Kanye’s intentions and break it down like it’s rap science, you little a$$holes.

Buy a bytch and relax, Frankie.

The kanye hate is tacky... you fukkin backpackers.

It's wack and it's been wack, no one claimed that he's ever liked it.

Really? So him bragging about being the hottest out and dominating radio was never something he did huh? Hes never cried about wanting recognition for his music from this same industry?

I don't get it, most big fashion houses are from white countries (European countries) promoting clothes for people who can afford it. They're not racist they are realists. It's not some type of charity, these are profit-maximizing companies trying to stay relevant forever.

LOL @ they are not racists. You just really don't know breh. I don't blame you for it but by no means are they 'realists' about 'equality' or any of that.

And there are countless black models (specially male), probably a disproportionate amount of black models compared to the proportion of black people copping those clothes. Even the youngest and most poppin fashion editor is black. That's a job you are given not something you take.

So you honestly believe because your personal opinion of who the hottest editor is means that the industry isn't known for being racist, not about equality, and very much a rich white mans club?

I'm very interested in fashion and they only thing I can agree on in that quote is that they might "look down on poor people" as most rich people do specially black people.

It's not might. It's true.

I don't get where you are getting that the fashion industry doesn't want equality, I'd assume that it's one of the mosts open minded industries. All they care about is how creative and fashionable you are. You are acting like Kanye is going around ass licking, he's doing what he studied in college and has been loving his whole life and still shytting on on them, still not acting how people in fashion acts. Do you think an ass licker gets to design Louis Vuitton sneakers? Get's Givenchy designers to design album covers? Sporting collections before they are released?

It is very far from the 'most open minded industry'

Kanye is going around ass licking. And he isn't shytting on anyone. You might have missed the part where the collective industry laughed at his attempt to go on his own.

They are letting him do all you mentioned because of his celebrity, not because they are about equality.

He's promoted it as much as Nas promoted killing young black males in the 90s. He talks about it, some idiots want to be like him when they can't afford it, not his problem. The fact that he designs shyt and sells them, is his interest and a way to make a cumfy living.

What the fukk does Nas have to do with anything?

Kanye can talk about anything he wants. He however cannot act like he is above all the shyt he is talking about out of the blue.

Have you even listened to the song? "All you guys want all the same things" is what they tell him, not what he's telling someone.
And the second verse has about 50% of the bars starting with "I".

Spin it anyway you want. I was listening to the song last night. I like the song. I think his marketing plan is corny.

Now I won't even try to defend anything he does to support his artists like Cruel Summer. Or other collaborations, I'm mainly focused on his music. My mind is not static, I'm not 12 year old. I understand the entertainment for clubs or whatever when he's with 2 Chainz talking about molly, and the seriousness in his message on a joint like Gorgeous. I understand that people like Pac, Nas or someone like Kanye are/were entertainers and people with strong opinions that might contradict their opinions but still make good music, help their peoples, send some kids to college or turn up the clubs or whatever.

I never said you were any of those things, however plenty of people do.

Again, I am a fan of his. That doesn't change the fact that I am not 12 either, I see this for what it is...an attempt to be edgy as a marketing plan.
