:mindblown: there should be some kind of statute of limitations on the time you can sue for a sample. how you gonna pull this bullshyt 10 years after the fukkin song was out? not like it was some hidden album track it was a #1 single for fukks sake

the reason they do that is to get the most out of the lawsuit they can.

why sue when the song gets released and has only made 1 million(per se) you wait until the song has been fully exhausted and then you got yourself a bigger lawsuit.

probably knew about it when the song first dropped

sounds like this BUmpin Bus Stop song has recently found a new owner of the publishing. maybe the artist died or something and the kids are money hungry

yep, that "step up" sample has been used forevers

Yeah, as soon as I heard that lyric "step up front," I was surprised at how often this track had been sampled.

Here's a more comprehensive list:

Lord Finesse is on it, too :lolbron:

I don't hear it on "golddigger", but that step up part was immediately making me think about "I get around" by pac.

I think that song actually samples Gang Starr, who sampled (if you want to call it that. Primo cut and scratched that shyt manually) the song in question

edit: and Golddigger uses the "get down" part. there's a few popular samples there on Bumpin. "it's the hottest thing" as well

Somehow, the sample clearing always skips over black folks. The sample is basically the song. I don't blame Kanye, or Premier, or any artist. This is obviously a result of record companies thinking they don't have to clear this sample.

Put the shoe on the other foot. Kanye got fat off that Gold digger shyt. It really shouldn't matter how long it takes for the plaintiffs to setup up. It's within their legal right to seek compensation, and rightfully so.

Producers try to get away with using rare or small uncredited samples, but often times they get caught later on in the game. Kanye knew this could potentially come back to bite him when he didn't attempt to clear the sample.

I'm sure you don't agree with every law there is, this is one that I don't agree with. I don't think the 1 second sample that says "get down" entitles them to millions :yeshrug:

They arent getting "rich off of your work" (and its not even their work anyway, its their dad's)... they're artists, and sampling is part of their art. & in this case its just a simple break anyway. It would be one thing if they were rehashing an iconic melody, but nah their just taking a kick & a snare because they like the tone. That break is easily replaceable.

When people sue like this it infringes on creativity. Its why Krits last album sucked, he had to avoid sampling because of clearance issues. And its almost always just a quick money grab

im gonna show you something

now this is my beat which was stolen from me before i knew about copywriting, i gave this to a manager who promised placement, it got placed alright, without my permission or anything, they never gave me credit, this is a commonly sampled song, but i got nothing and while i attribute this to being my fault, it wasnt fair. i didint deserve to go out like that

this was my original instrumental. so trust me, i know the feeling. i was more than happy to pay the clearence fee etc, but nope, nothing. in the end i got fukked and i couldnt do shyt about it.

some of these songs that were played manually by these artists have been used as the foundation of an entire genre, you telling me they dont deserve at least 50 cents for their hard work per song?

thats why i am not exactly mad. artists sample (especially me) the fact is, i didint personally play it, thus if i made money, so should they. its fair
