I think so too.

I've said this before but I spent a day with him before he was famous. He was down in NC for a music conference and he was the exact same then. This was before Through The Wire even came out, so he was not exactly a celebrity, especially in the south.

He'd play a song and then say "That was the most amazing song in history, I feel like we should all hear it again" and then he'd skip back to it. Kanye was talking about being the most famous rapper the world have ever known, etc. Then later in the day he was recording "I See Now" with Little Brother and couldn't finish his verse without punching in. Someone made a little joke about it and he said "My music is from my soul so it's supposed to take my breathe away."

He was not much different than he is now. Listen to Talib Kweli's old stories about him before Kanye was famous. Kweli was the 1st person to let Kanye your with him as a rapper, and has some crazy road stories.
