Wayne would be a better example.

Either way Kanye’s influence with young Black males has always been overstated. Even his fashion influence was bigger in the white and Asian community.
Influence is influence. Even overstated he still had more pull in the rap/black community than gucci did at any point in his career.

If we're talking about overstated influence, how many young black males did Gucci influence that weren't drugged out trap rappers? :usure: you got ice cream tatted on your face?

Musically you hear way more future/migos/uzi in people's music. Nobody bringing back "stoopid fruity swag" or zaytoven style beats :mjlol:

Repeat that last sentence to yourself again. Then congratulate me for a point well made.

Gucci had more influence in Kanye’s own city than he did. Drill was the second biggest genre in hip hop the past decade. Outside of Atlanta strip club music ( which also has Gucci’s dna all over it.)

Kanye only holds the crown for nikkas that “Don’t be outside”

Ill repeat it: how many young black males did gucci influence that weren't trap rappers?

Your answer: Zero

Drill is a trap derivation:francis: pitiful that you can't perceive black males outside of your caricature

The same years drill came up Kendrick's movement was popping out west, Chance was making a movement with vince staples in chicago, a$ap rocky was starting a movement, odd future was starting, travis scott is getting his sound put out by Kanye, Jcole is hitting the mainstream etc.

None of them were influenced by Goofy Mane. All of them bigger artist than Chief Keef. Obviously drill isnt that important.

So you uncleverly made my point. You couldnt point out influence that wasnt a trap rapper.

Also strip club music isnt a genre.:russ: Records for mainstream consumption get curated on a street level by strip club djs. Them nikkas is playing straight up trap

Your opinions are consistently mainstream. I’ll give that to you.

I love Ye's first few albums and still play them all the time. They're classic and timeless.

But he's never been a great MC. His strength has always been in being an artist. He knows how to put people in the right places for his albums, and how to curate whole projects. That's the genius of his production. His ear is crazy. But his lyrics were never elite.

I didnt post an opinion :umad:

Just inserting reality. Yall wanna pedestalize shyt as something bigger than it was and then move the goalposts till the narrative sounds comfortable.

"Gucci more influenitial than Kanye:mjgrin:"
"Ok only during these years:damn:"
"Ok only in this part of the country:damn:"
"Ok only to nikkas who went outside:damn:"
"Ok only to nikkas who went outside at night:damn:"

:heh: hush

Kanye’s lyrics are underrated a lot of punchlines, humor and wit, emotion, and quotable.

Since he didn’t write it all I guess Consequence, Rhymefest, Common, the nikkas who wrote for him were mid.

Then on the mic Ye’s flows, confidence, charisma, voice brought those bars to life.

Gucci influenced drill rappers in Chicago.

Ye influenced the other side NoName, Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Mick Jenkins, etc.

I mean isnt that how it works?

I hear Consequence & Cyhi in many of my favorite Kanye verses. I listen to both of their solo shyt too, it isnt about a lack of talent or charisma that they dont deliver themselves.

Its about image. Image. Not the music but what they wear, who they fukk, who thinks they're cool. Thats what I hate about this industry and these gay ass fans, everything revolves around image. shyt makes me sick tbh.

Lol lyrics definitely still matter in R&B.
i didn’t say they dont matter

i said nobody is listening to it for the lyrics

nobody was picking up Thriller or Bad saying “i cant wait to hear what Michael says” like you would a Jay-Z or Nas album

lyrics matter more in rap than any genre

You used two bad examples. Thriller and Bad cater heavily to Pop audiences where lyrics take a backseat. You look at Marvin Gaye or Stevie's most acclaimed works and the lyrics are a huge reason those albums resonated.

Also strip club anthems have existed since the South had a market in Hip Hop.

Whats Going On is my favorite album of all time

but that and stevie are pretty exceptional. and even then their albums would be masterpieces with more average lyrics off the strength of the music. the lyrics make them even better and take them over the edge
