All I know is, I'm stuck asking what happened to this Kanye ?
He's clearly always had a massive ego but I feel like the ego has completely overtaken
any aspects of Kanye as he presented himself on Late Registration/College Dropout/Graduation
Listening to his albums from his first to his last is essentially listening to his ego grow larger and
larger until you finally reach proclamations of himself as a god on earth and the greatest living rock star.
In some ways, I love the insane braggadocio, hell I've even incorporated it into my own writing and it makes me really
think about the ideas he's trying to put across while other times I feel he's totally loss the self awareness he appeared
to have in his earlier music. He knew he was the "Louie vuitton don" and wasn't afraid to wear his affinity
for fashion on his sleeve but that Kanye was also aware that racism wasn't a "Thing of the past" and
he didn't seem intent on "Listening to the kids". Instead Kanye was going to do Kanye no matter what people thought,
win or lose. He still is often frank and still shows a disdain for "haters" but now it seems like he isn't fighting
the people who doubt him simply to doubt, now he's waving daggers at the people that helped him reach that level
of success. Back then he seemed to have had some semblance of self awareness but whatever was there seems to have evaporated as
he gained more accolades.
