No one has any idea what any of this is gonna be worth in the future. It’s a conversation being had constantly at every level of the music industry without anything even remotely close to a consensus.
My point was that if Katy Perry and her team were only able to monetize her catalog rights for say 100 million but the conglomerate who purchased it can get it up to a billion with their vast client network she has come out way ahead because it wasn’t “worth” a billion in her hands and no one would have ever paid her that.

I hear you and you’re probably right in some aspects. What I do know is that no billion dollar company buys anything for that much without doing a present value analysis that reaches far beyond the purchase price. Of course I agree with you that scaling makes it easier to monetize the catalogue but I do believe that holding on to the music, bar she has great investors that can create a profitable portfolio, would have been better long term.
