You gotta wonder...if he could go back in time knowing what he knows now does KD still go to GSW? Was it worth it to him? Did he really get what he wanted out of it? Clearly he wanted something more than just buckets and rings. The thing is, you can't get the stuff it sounds like he's looking for on the court or even in the media or with fans.

He would have gotten way more validation had stayed and won in OKC

GS played better when KD was out except in finals when refs swallowed whistles. KD gets Finals MVPs but never got doubled to keep the ball out his hands. Everyone's focus was on Steph. From the gate KD came in hating even disrespected Steph's Under Armour shoes....

Man as great as KD he is sensitive!

Ty Lue said on camera that Steph got defensive priority, they were fine with KD getting his points, but the Cavs felt like they had to stop Steph at all cost because he was the true leader of the team.

KD was the best player for us to sign talent wise to win chips but personality wise he was the worst player for a dynasty because he cared too much about what people said about him.

There's players out there that wouldn't give a fukk about what people had to say about them if they was winning chips and getting the max.

I thank him for his service regardless....don't know how he ever expected anyone to love him like Steph out here tho. I don't think an athlete is loved in any city more than we love Steph.

Validation is a mufukka....love yourself brehs. Depending on love from others leads to perpetual disappointment.

KD should have known better but we all live and learn

Lebron 1 ring in Cleveland means more than his 2 rings in Miami. He got validated.

Kobe 2 rings without Shaq means more than his 3 rings with Shaq. He got validated.

Remember in 2012 when OKC faced Miami in the NBA finals, KD was the anti lebron to media and fans

I remember media and fans were rooting for OKC back then. Imagine had KD gotten his first ring over Lebron back then.

Yup. OKC was favored to win the series (I'm talking betting odds and media preference). All the juice was with KD.

It's only retroactively that ppl say them boys were too young/outmatched.

In actuality they beat the Lakers and the Spurs and looked primed and ready.

Nyggas simply fumbled the bag

Yep KD would have gotten all the praise in the world back then.

He would have been called the best player in the world

Folks were back then was still mad at lebron.

The debates back then would have been KD>>>>>>>>>>Lebron

If he could go back in time, I bet he'd hard pass on GSW and do his "Brooklyn" move sooner.

i.e. Find another star running mate to join him on a mid/low tier playoff team.

Now what the free agent market was looking like back in 2016, I dont remember off top.

KD really tried to copy Brons template but he doesn't have the fan base and media on lock like Bron. It worked on the court but he wasn't mentally ready for the hate he would receive and he underestimated the fans Steph Curry had in the Bay.

Curry led the Dubs to their first Championship in 40+ years only 2 years before he came, it was too fresh :yeshrug:
Not just in the bay. Ppl generally underestimate Stephs stardom period. Among Fans and media, Steph is probably the most popular(like generally liked) player in the league. Lebron, Harden, KD, Russ, even Kobe all received criticism and hate from fans. Not so much Steph. And it’s not because he’s protected. Ppl just like him. And his game.

Steph gave up a lot deferring to KD like he did because he could’ve really built his brand up to a higher ceiling without Kds presence in The Bay Area.

just my two cents.

KD is right. Ethan Strauss was riding Steph and kerrs dikks so hard during that era
Just reading that excerpt and interview you can tell Ethan's an arrogant pompous a$$hole too. He just came off as condescending as hell with the way he was trying to diss the typical NBA athlete who was upset with him and mad they don't get how enlightened his writing is and how dare they not bow to him.

I've been saying for years that IMO the media/fans blaming everything bad on KD was the reason I thought he'd leave. I saw it in real time happening, especially in those Houston series. The offense was stagnant and Houston's switch everything defense was throwing the Warriors off so KD would start iso'ing and taking over while Steph and Klay played like shyt. Somehow KD would get the blame for them not hitting their shots when the games were looking to be blowouts without KD taking over.

Durant:What's the problem? What am I doing to y'all?

Reporter: You weren't talking. You weren't talking to the media ...

Durant: So! Who are you? Why do I gotta talk to you? Tell me. Is that gonna help me do my job better? Nah. I didn't feel like talking.

I took this more as KD is going to get his regardless. Nothing you can do to stop it. The team's success depends more on what Steph is giving you. It's like if a team is playing the Cavs during those years there was no stopping Lebron. But if Kyrie is givng you 30 then the team is unbeatable. Wouldn't make Kyrie the better player, just the one that you have a chance of slowing down.

you'd have a point if Steph didn't rise up and take over the series after KD got hurt. people were saying that the isoing was playing into the way Houston wanted to play and they were proven right.
