My company is basically eliminating a position and u can either lose like $4 or 5 dollars a hour off your pay or take a severance package

If it come down to it i'm taking the pay cut but at the same time look for other work, cause u have no idea if other companies out there will pay u either the same u getting cut down to or if u making a lot $$ per hour are those companies willing to pay u that much..

Right now i have a ton of sales jobs calling me and l'm like :what: i can't fukk with commission especially with the internet out here and people can get sales from that on what i'm trying to offer

really tho

6 month severance should be still enough time. Don't you get unemployment on top of that? Jobs aren't guaranteed and are always "at will" which means anyone can terminate for any reason. People get laid off on the regular. I'd take it while it was available. A company having to make that much a cut is not in good financial standing or won't be if they keep up the way they are going without changes.

even the market for mcdonald cash is hard

i remember when i was offered, it was a thursday and I had to decide by monday,

a few people took the package but they were there for 20 years and getting 4 weeks salary for every year.

if you been somewhere for 15+ years take the package especially if you get 4 weeks per year. You probably want something new anyway, in that time you can start your own business, see the family, grand kids, travel etc.. You can get another job and get 2 checks :blessed:

yeah 20 years and in your late 40s early 50s you take that, but im in my 20s , only one guy there my age took it and thats because he planned on leaving in a few months to teach in korea so it worked out perfect for him

I'd take the severance. They're offering for a reason. It doesn't sound like a stable situation, so best to get the best offer and move on.

Unless you have retirement with them. Then, different considerations.

If you're young and new to the company I doubt the severance package would do anything for you. Same shyt happened to me lastly year, it was either take the severance( which was only going to be 2 months worth of pay for me since I only been their 2 years) or transfer to another office out of state. I took the transfer, but I quit after I got an offer from another company so it worked out in the end.
Even with this job I'm keeping my eyes open, being at a company for 10 to 20 years isn't real anymore.

Job market is still in the gutter unless you're a very talented and accomplished individual. (Ivy league grad, years of experience in the double digits)

Take the career and leave the money on the table for now.

Edit: Start job hunting though... its easier to find a job when you still have one.

Really. This is what people are telling themselves? :heh:

I just came off of a job hunt after being unemployed for 2 months, I got in due to my connections...I know exactly whats out there

Plus I have a close friend who graduated from MIT and they wouldn't stop ringing his phone for interviews. He pretty much had his choice of which company he wanted to rock with

I don't have to tell myself anything , this is life experience.

same with my job except I'm not in a position that's being eliminated. I agree with taking the pay cut and keep looking for work.
