Keith Murray was my fav rapper before Nas. Jail and that last Def Jam album killed him.

Star was teh only nikka giving this song love...and he only did it on teh stregth of who Keith Murray was.

You have to remember what happened though. Keith allegedly CHOKED OUT TWO DEF JAM EMPLOYEES around the time when this came out, so they stopped putting money behind his project.
Just because I think the song is corny, doesn't mean it wouldn't have worked if there was more money behind it. Is this really any cornier than some of Luda's big hits?
The beat is good for a radio record, the verses are pretty well put together, he just didn't get that payola push that other people were getting because he wilded out (once again).
It's interesting that you note that Star played it, because
1. Star wasn't really in that payola mix
2. Star probably didn't give a shyt about pissing people off at Def Jam who wanted the project to die

I didnt tell the full story.
Star would do this thing where he would dare certain rappers to say things on air and if they did it he would give their records a certain amount of spins per hour. He did it to Justine Timberlake when he got him to admit that Britney Spears and him were actually fukking and she was not a virgin like she was portraying. That admission went all over the tabloid shows but they never acknowledged it was on Stars show cuz dude was still infamous from that aaliyah situation. He told Keith that if he said on air that Ed Lover and Doctor Dre who had a show on Power 105 at the time, were finished he would give Keith like 5 spins every hour. Keith did it and Star lived up to his word.
There was a rumor that right before he went to prison , when Keith Murray was on the run he called Star and Bucwild when they were on Manhattan Public Access sounding crazy like when OJ was in that Brronco. Everyone thought it was a prank until Keith went on their show in 2003 and admitted it was actually him who called.
You have to stop and think what would prompt Keith who was a well known rapper at the time, to call Star, of all people, on a live manhattan cable,show while on the run?
