:laff:

For some reason this shyt has me dying.

Also...I'm pretty sure Jeter fukked the bytch of at least 16 people in this thread. Cause the hate is absurd.

Really? Dudes are hating on DEREK JETER?

Jeter is a classic "so overrated he became underrated" player.

8 Top 10 MVP finishes
8 200 hit seasons (he's only two seasons removed from a 216 hit, .362 OBP season)
A World Series MVP
Top 10 in Offensive WAR 10 times
Top 5 in Offensive WAR 7 times
Top 5 in stolen base % 6 times

Among SS all time Jeter is:

1st in hits
1st in runs
4th in doubles
4th in Homeruns
7th in RBI
8th in OBP

His defense sucks. And other SS had more pop in their bats over the course of their careers. The double play balls and the groundouts toward the end of his career... yeesh. But Jeter is inarguably one of the best players at his position in the history of the game of baseball. I've seen thoughtful breakdowns that have him as high as 3, and thoughtful breakdowns that have him as low as 12. I'd probably rank him in the 5-7 range, but it's difficult to account for different eras and to balance value between offense and defense, as well as longevity.

There are no thoughtful breakdowns that have him as the best player ever, and no thoughtful breakdowns that show his numbers as an Astro or Royal would make him an irrelevant player. There is no thoughtful breakdown that leads one to conclude Jeter is "an average player." I know The Coli has an embarrassing dearth of baseball understanding, but these opinions are moronic.

He played for one of the most infamous teams in all sports as they were coming back to prominence and evolved into a dynasty. So yes, he deservedly got more coverage. And the whining about that is just sour grapes and bytchassness.

He didn't concede his position to A-Rod, and never made it easier for A-Rod to feel comfortable in New York, which a Captain should be expected to do. And it really doesn't stain his legacy at fukking all, because despite the pit of denial A-Rod's fans live in, Alex Rodriguez is one of the lamest, least sympathetic human beings in the history of the world, and no one gives a fukk about him.

He played an instrumental role in several championships, was the face of the franchise and one of the faces of baseball - in other words, he helped make a lot of people a lot of money. So yeah, this might come as a shock to all you whiny-for-no-reason "I'm mad because Jeter has too many commercials" clowns, but the league and the Yankees are appropriately fellating him on the way out the door, for all the good times.

Ideally he would've left after that renaissance year in 2012. But he stuck around to chase more names on the hits list. And the Yankees let him. Oh well.

Hey, he backed up his position with facts and logic. Y'all coming off as illogical by just responding with petty insults and tears. Im a Jeter fan too, but its not the end of the world if someone puts his career in perspective and proper context. Get Jeter's balls off ya chin.
you're an idiot. His argument is a red herring to begin with.

The people who say Jeter is the best ever are either young kids who only watched the Yankees during the dynasty years or their parents who really hate all the steroid era guys and appreciate that Jeter never had to cheat.

He's the unquestioned face of the last 20 years of Yankee baseball, but hardly the best player.

The Derek Jeter chants during every AB have really worn on me whenever I'm there, especially when it's immediately followed up with a ground out. Personally I appreciate Jeter, but I was more invested in the Mo stuff.

:mjlol:

Keith or Derek ? either way both sound a lil sus:scust:

the former. and fukk you breh :stopitslime:

Uncertain grounds
the only thing that bothers me about jeter's legacy is that a good portion of people think he was a good fielding SS. "oh..he didnt have the range of _____ but if it came to him he was as sure-handed as it gets". :camby: then play second base :heh: dude was not a good fielding SS.

i wonder what % of his hits were seeing eye singles that squeaked by the infield :steviej:

In their primes, lets be real, in the least, A-Rod, Nomar and Tejada were better with the bats and many SS were better with the gloves. Jeter was a very good contact hitter who was durable, clutch and a great locker room guy with incredible longevity. His actual, tangible skills weren't as legendary as it is made out to be. Other people get flack for being on great offenses (and being able to see great pitches, score more runs etc) but Jeter is seemingly immune to this. To me, his most comparable player all-time is Cal Ripken...who had a similar farewell tour as well.

They really werent though:heh:
Jeter hit for more power and got on base more. And he had a longer prime than both

Except that his talking point is that Jeter isn't the greatest player ever...who the fukk thinks that? Nobody even suggested he's the best at his position? He's exaggerating. So his premise is false and comes off as a bitter ass stuck up dude.

In that very clip, didnt Posada suggest that he believed Jeter to be the greatest yankee of all time? Wouldnt it be fair to also suggest that many people put Jeter in the same pantheon as Ruth, Joe D, Mantle, etc? Was Olbermann's segment a bit provocative? Sure...of course, its a sports discussion. Its not as if he went out of his way to be an irrational douche and call Jeter trash or anything; he just put his career in its proper placement, and countered the over the top theatrics concerning all these retirement ceremonies. Would you rather he just have safe opinions all the time?

Its just crazy how you cats freak out over any opinion, no matter how well argued, that diverges from your own. He didnt say anything offensive or wild...Counter his opinion with your own facts like @Walt did...calling him names is a bit groupieish to me all because he dared to analyze Jeter's career.
