:heh: you sound foolish. Shady ran the ball more than any running back this year (314, Marshawn was close with 301). No matter what formation you line up in, if your primary way of moving the ball is through running the football, you are a smashmouth team. There's nothing finesse about running inside and outside zone out of shotgun, there's just a lack of a QB under center

:usure:

Smash mouth does not simply mean running the ball.

Smash mouth normally suggests an I-formation with a Fullback and QB under center. But smash-mouth is unequivocally associated with controling the clock and having a greater time of possession than your opponent.
:pachaha:
So no, the Eagles do not run a traditional smash mouth. More like a spread offense that runs the ball very often

Smash mouth isnt just running it up the middle.

Smash mouth means '3 yards and a cloud of dust'. It means slowly chipping away at the defense and controlling the time of possession. Does this sound like the Eagles?

you're right guys. the eagles wont miss desean :beli:

Try and change the argument brehs. :skip:

No one is saying they won't miss him or that he isn't a good player. Everyone was just pointing out how stupid you're arguments of the Eagles "not using desean properly" and "they're a finesse team with a qb who throws ducks" are.

More like emotional outbursts from eagles fans. My beef is with the article suggesting that desean didnt alter the way teams prepared for and played against philly which is BS. Chip is an offensive genius, he knows lining up jacks and mcoy on opposite sides of the formation caused problems for damn near everyone. The eagles have a finesse running game and it works. The intermediate passing game works to the strengths of their qb and not necessarily desean.

But Desean had the best season of his career by far because the Eagles were so dominant in the run game that teams had to load up the box and couldn't double Desean. So i still don't get what your beef is.

What the Eagles do is take a new school of thought (Hurry up no huddle, fukk a time of possession) while meshing it with old smash mouth tendencies (we're gonna run the ball down your throat the whole game). There's nothing "finesse" about running the football breh, no matter what formation you line up in, especially when you're goal is to run to victory. That's about as smashmouth as it gets, forgoing time of possession

No matter what formation you line up in, if your primary way of moving the ball is through running the football, you are a smashmouth team.
the eagles passed more than they ran the ball tho
508 passes, 500 runs

compare them to a real smashmouth run-first team like Seahawks or Niners where each team had nearly 100 more rush attempts than pass attempts...

I dont think you can consider philly a smash mouth run-first team. when you pass more than you run theres no way you can say running the ball is the primary way of moving the ball...yes, even in this era.

also it might be semantics, but I agree that smashmouth football implies power formations and power running. what Niners do is smashmouth, those 2TE, 1 WR sets are as smashmouth as they are. word to mike singletary. I think the Niners used 3WR sets the least out of any team over the last few years.

chip kelly offense with its quick pace is pretty damn different from the standard definition of what smash mouth football is.

that article made it seem like the eagles are smash mouth. They are a spread system team thst has a finess running game. when you split out jackson, hes going to get attention if you have a qb that can actually get him the ball instead of throwing ducks.

Breh, you can employ a power running game from the spread...they did it at Oregon for years with Johnathan Stewart,LeGarrette Blount, Kenjon Barner, LaMichael James,DeAnthony Thomas etc.

The Pats have done the same thing in the NFL for a while now.
