While agree that Kendrick probably wouldn't be experiencing the run he's on now back in the 90s, it's not because of tastes changing, it's more about lack of top end variety. Saying he'd be Del status is a wild overstatement.
To go back to the clip, they're overlooking the fact that Dre, Snoop, Tupac, etc. wouldn't be able to dominate LA radio like this because most of their runs overlapped, so it was easier to mix things up a bit. But now, if you're a southern California station and want to go with local acts, who else from the region is anywhere near as prominent and popular as Kendrick Lamar? Most stations would much rather play "Luther", "TV Off", "Squabble Up", and "Peekaboo" every single hour than anything else.
Really, this speaks more to the fact that hip-hop is hurting for legitimate stars right now more than anything.
