I wouldn't go as far as to say Kendrick Lamar has more in common with Beyonce than he does with Nas. I'm not sure if you're talking about the environment they grew up in or their content and appeal as artist. But I believe Nas and Kendrick Lamar can't and shouldn't be compared until way later. Kendrick Lamar isn't pop in my opinion. He's a rapper like Nas, but one that's hyped to great amounts by media, fans and the culture. The saving grace is that he's talented and hasn't been crushed by those expectations.

But at the same time he hasn't exactly exceeded them either.

but he just happens to do collabs with pop artists like Rihanna, Sia, Maroon 5, Beyonce, U2, Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons, Lady Gaga, Mayor Hawthorne, Dido, etc?

Cmon breh. The evidence is right there in your face. We can't be falling for this in 2017. :snoop:

What's wrong with collaborations. Limiting yourself in no way is a negative in my eyes. Rap can flow into every mainstream genre of music there is (except maybe country). Pusha T and Vince Staples lent vocals and collaborated with Gorillaz on their new Humanz album.

It's almost slighting to believe it's a negative to do collaborations with the artists you mentioned. He's not incorporating them into the core of his albums or content in such a way that you wouldn't believe that it isn't a rap album. This isn't a case of Taylor swift going from country wave to pop.

Ehh....I got the movie reference and how it ties in with the song/album though, so I thought it was awesome. If you didn't catch the reference, vid most certainly loses a lot of context.
I didn't catch the movie reference. Regardless... The video should be dope if I caught it or not.

fair point breh. and I have no problem with any of that (especially the bolded) as long as we keep it real and stop trying to rewrite hip hop history to accommodate an obvious pop artist. Kendrick has more in common with Beyonce than he does with Nas - let's be reality. From presentation all the way down to fanbase

Yeah, but visuals are there to provide context though right? If you ain't catch the reference you missed a lot of the context.

For example, I really liked that Big Sean video that had all the "Martin" references...if you never seen the show the and looked at it as just "visuals" and judging it as such, your review is going to reflect your level of understanding of the concept, correct?

typical rosenberg playing dumb. Right off the bat, understand that as you seek my attention, don't expect to get a reply every time. And if you say enough dumb shyt in a row, you'll get tossed in Ignore Hell and that's that.

The way you attempt to rewrite history to coddle Ducktales is pathetic as fukk. And if you are as old as you claim to be, a true testament to how a fraud can be any age.

Nevermind that Jay-Z collaborated with Linkin Park way after he'd already established himself as a top tier rapper.

The Black Lips? I've never even heard of them. Googled them and they're some underground punk rock band with barely any views on Youtube. How in the fukk is that pop - especially in comparison to Taylor Swift, Sia, Maroon 5, etc? :what: The Black Keys are pop? :comeon:

Tim McGraw is country/pop and that collaboration made total sense because Nelly was always a pop rapper. Unlike today's frauds, Nelly never came out the gate pretending to be something he wasn't.

Compare one-of, outside-genre collabs by legendary rappers at least a decade after their debut* to an Interscope geek who debuted in 2011 and was already dikkriding pop by 2012, brehs.

*It wasn't a decade for Public Enemy and Anthrax. Before you start on some tangential bullshyt to pick apart a minor part of the response to deflect from the main and obvious point :snoop:
