I agree, instant classic might be a little premature. But atleast at the moment while it’s fresh, it do feel atleast like a 4 out of 5 mics to me. (I do get why people say it’s a classic tho. ) All the samples were awesome and yea it’s crazy thinking “damn people don’t even know where the heart was sampled from. He surely stands ALONE in this era.
Dot was born in 87, he would have been young in the mid-90s but I'm sure he grew up on the SWV track along with the other tracks I mentioned. It was a good sample flip which is why the production sounds dope. Let's bring back dope sampling again. I liked every "Heart" track he's done. It's a great series for him. I also understand why the disses didn't make it. He really wanted the project to stand on it's own.

Didn't get to the last 2 on the ride home.

I'll be the contrarian: he leaned a bit too much into the West Coast/100 BPM Mustard sound a bit too much for me. Squabble Up and TV Off are the best offerings in that lane.

Luther and Hey Now are the weakest to me though I'm sure both can function as singles. I'm in the minority but Dodger Blue ain't blowing my mind either.

Agree with this except that Luther is the weakest track, I think it's the best melodic track lol

Kendrick to me still hasn't surpassed his GKMC days, those songs are still sicker than these songs if you compare them side by side. Just cleaner, better flows, more cohesive vision, more soul. Just sucks that to me that's Kendrick at his best, and people won't see that.

But glad it's getting treated well I guess
