He's one of my favorites but I find it interesting people love him more now that he's dumbing down. Some of these songs are definitely Eminem encore status. Which is ironic since he's such a stan. But I feel right now he could fart on a record and people would hype it up. Like 04 em

This was my fear in 1) kendrick becoming an even bigger and more mainstream icon, and 2) People just running with the narrative Mr Morale was just this garbage album it wasn’t as good as this previous albums but that’s bc his previous albums are all classics or in that conversation. It’s still a deep, rich album. So i really hope he’s not on some ‘truthfully I wanna rhyme like common sense, but…’

I like the album but I don’t want this to be the norm. It’s a quasi-watered down Kendrick. He should NOT cater to fans who want/need ‘bops’

I think it’s a fair concern I’ll counter by asking, who’s to say he didn’t want to make an album of bops himself? It was talks since early this year we was gonna get a regular rap album and a concept album.

And honestly if this is considered quasi-watered down then we might as well start calling him the GOAT.

There’s only one artist off the top of my head that dropped an album with heavy substance, quasi-watered down lyrics and accessible production and that’s:

….and that album is a bonafide classic.

It’s damn near impossible to walk that fine line without sacrificing too much and he walked it perfectly with gnx. Also…damn sometimes we want some fun shyt lmao. Him using Baby Keem as his play doh vessel to create lit shyt shoulda told you he was always gonna drop something more turnt. Bro tells us in his music all the time he wants money & success, he wants that validation.

The “reincarnation” theme feels like it developed from that Prayer song that was leaked from the Mr Morale sessions. It’s not about being Pac or the next Pac, which some haters have grabbed onto. It’s about the spirit of art/expression passing from body to body, and what you decide to do with that gift. Do you use it for good or self destruction? Also makes me wonder whether some of the bay influence is him channeling/paying homage to Drakeo, with that theme in mind.

And I like how on Reincarnated the last verse starts out with the savior stuff before he takes himself to task for his own flaws. This isn’t the first time he’s admitted he enjoys “war” or aggression. Drake really fukked with this man at the worst possible time lol.
