Really?

Pun most of the time is just rapping about ways to torture his opponents and how sick he is over wack to somewhat good beats. He had 2 albums with one of them being ass cheeks

I don't agree with him saying kill yourself, but that's not true man, Pun had great content, he was potent, spoke about so many issues, you not heard even the title track Capital Punishment?

[Big Pun]
It's mine; it's all mine you understand At least me and my peoples Can you dig that 21st century, thought I'd never see it Right around the corner, baby Ours for the takin'

[Verse one: Big Pun]
I've seen child blossom to man Some withered and turned to murderers Led astray by the liars death glorifiers observin' us
Watching us close, marking our toast ???
Purposely overtaxin' the earnings
Nervous, burnin' down the churches
They're scared of us, rather beware than dare to trust
Always in jail, million dollar bail, left there to rust
Let's call in order, give ourselves a chance to enhance broader
Advance to where minorities are the majority voter
Holdin' my own, I'm livin' alone in this cold world
My sister just bought a home without a loan, you go girl She's an exception, some people can leap to the impression
See, me myself, I start flippin' and fall victim to deep depression
I'm stressin' the issue here, so we can gross the fiscal year Tired of gettin fired and hired as a pistol-eer
There's no longevity livin' off negativity
fukk it, I'd rather sell reefer than do pizza delivery
That's how the city be, everybody gettin' they hustle on
Judge singin' death penalty like it's his favorite fukkin' song
Word is bond, takin' my life you know they lovin' it
God, F the government and it's fukkin' capital punishment

[Hook: Prospect]
Capital punishment, given by the government System so organized they get to you and who you runnin' with Can't live alone, watch for the spies and tapped phones
Totin' the llello for life, the rightful heir to the throne
We come from Kings and Queens, people with dreams, Gods and Earths For what it's worth, we benefit the Earth with infinite worth First it's turnin tables, open our own labels Disable the Republicans, then reverse capital punishment

[Verse Two: Big Pun]
I've seen it all up close, shyt out the movies you'd be buggin'
My cousin Chuchi, barely a juve', lost it and turned on the oven He wasn't playin', blew out the flame and started inhalin' Baring a secret too deep to keep on the street for sharin'
Wearin' the virus, Acquired Immune Deficiency
Dishin' his dikk in every thick promiscuous fish in the sea
Listen to me, shyt is rough in the ghetto
You bluff, blow your head off, fukk a snuff, we bust lead off
Get off your high horse, or die off like an extinction
Boriquans are like Mohicans, The Last of the Po'Ricans
We need some unity, fukk all the jeeps and jewelry The maturity, keeps me six feet, above obscurity
The streets are deadly and everybody's a desperado
I guess the motto we promise to let you homage in death your motto
Like Zorro, I mark my territory with a symbol Not with a Z, but a P, cause Punishment's what I resemble
I lend you this if it expands yours, for you and yours
A real man can't fall, he stands tall
The Man's claws are diggin in my back, I'm tryin to hit him back Time to counteract, where my nikkas at

[Hook]

[Verse Three: Prospect]
You like that, it's Pun and Prospect
We hold nines, own more treasure than gold mines, makin progress
With Don Juan's, there's rules to be made, crews to be sprayed Dues to be paid, nothin' y'all can do to behave
We laid in the slums, made a cake out of crumbs
Even though the government, tryin to take out our sons
Rudy Gulliani trying to blind me, but I see reality
Was raised with the street mentallity My strategy's why my battery never die
The ghetto kept me wise, so I would never fall to the lies
It's no surprise, but do or die if you want the glamour
Yeah, I want the glamour, laid up with cheese and trees in Atlanta
While Cuban's smoked out like Ronald Isley with Havanas
The hammer in the palm, never shaky, calm handlers
This renegade blow through barricades like grenades
I turn the sun to shade, then the night back to day
Like the twenty-four hour rotation
I know the location, it's just a little in-for-mation
From the Squad, bringing the Terror for the nine-era
And let it rain on your fine leather, nikka, what

Edit: Some of the lyrics I noticed are long but don't have the time to correct currently, but you get the jist.

The thing about Kendrick is he has quite a balance of songs ranging from club bangers, intrsopective, conscious upliftng records, political songs, songs for the ladies, etc. Granted he isn't the Goat, but he does what many other underground scientific rappers fail to do and that is make music that can appeal to many different demographics, also his voice inflections are often utilized as an instrument so he has everything from aggressive delivery that the streets can fukk with, to the powerful emotional delivery that can evoke emotion. Kendrick has found the bridge between the underground hip hop nostalgia fans and the mainstream turn up audience
Lol Kendrick has ZERO club bangers. Aggressive delivery? Lmao. Dude is a clown and his attempts at being aggressive sound robotic forced and futile. Nothing he does sounds natural. He does not have the streets DOES NOT HAVE SQUARED UP nikkaS and does not, have the whites on lock either. And he doesn't have a female core either. All he has is interscope brainwashing the public.

Kendrick has very unique flows, hooks and great production.

Kendrick sounds a bit mechanic to me, raps over some bland beats sometimes too, lyrics aren't really potent, doesn't have much bite, he doesn't interest of excite me, loses me, found his albums difficult to get through but still tried.
thats every kendrick song to me.... just try to get through it... then when the song is done im just sitting there with no feelings. kendrick the kind of rapper making the kind of music i feel my parents would want me to listen to when i was a kid like if my mom went to get a rap album from the record store she would get me safe boring kendrick lamar. kendrick makes the kind of rap music parents woud want their children to listen to. kendrick song done playing i feel like playing some dogg pound just to wash that feeling off of me. music sounding like what kanye west new shoes look like. its like what you said... no bite.. no umph... artificially funky... like trying to be funky and soulful but so formulaic and dry.... missing the whole point of what organic funky soulful music is supposd to be about... with his i dont really talk this way raspy indian ass accent for no reason

I feel you, people wanna try to discredit how we feel about this, but it's no coincidence at all that people who don't know eachother and probably have never even communicated before feel so similarly. I'll check his new album out still but so far he hasn't captivated me at all.

I'm not surprised he has an Eminem obsession actually. You can hear the Eminem, Lil Wayne etc influence in terms of style/sound. He's a safe rapper, If I want to hear a more safe rapper would go for Will Smith, even then he had Loretta and joints like that that were quite edgy. Kendrick sounds a bit gimmicky to me, don't think the hype machine did him any favors too, over-hyped a project then created huge expectations to surpass the originally over-hyped work. He shouldn't let the hype go to his head and realize he has a lot of improvement to do then maybe his upcoming album could be better. Hopefully he has some fresh topics too, but you get the feeling it might be in safe mode, you get the impression he's concerned about his spot and wants to be in good graces with the corplantation as Chuck would say.

agree with ALL of this.

Someone said earlier that if you grew up in the 90s you're not so easily impressed by Kdot and I think that exactly maybe why I've been really scratching my head at all this hype about lyricism with this cat. He has had no and I mean no memorable verses to date besides control

Exactly, Rakim or Big Pun is an example of lyrically superior, Kendrick is just better than some of his terrible current peers today, even then Jay Electronica is better than him.

Right. None of the rappers from this generation are on the same level as a Rakim, a Big Pun, a Big L, etc.
I think what happens is, some people are so desperate for 'real hip hop' that they'll praise anybody who even makes an attempt to spit hot bars.

Like nikkas saying Kendrick out rapped Jay Electronica on control. I just don't get it...Kendrick verse was nice but it was all over the place. Jay Electron's verse was more terse, consistent and meaningful in my opinion.
