All of a sudden magazine ratings are legit and now artists get ratings they "deserve" :laff:

We gon act like this nikka ain't have one of the lamest and most obvious marketing push in recent hip hop history? This nikka was literally on nobody's radar for years but he drops Swimming Pools a few months ago and now he's on BET and MTV and getting all these awards and accolades?

:laff: :laff:

it's sad when the supposed "real hip hop" fans start supporting manufactured hype

so his album is not worthy of an XXL rating? His album is trash? Does he not deserve theses accolades? real hip hop fans are praising the album homey.....

A nikka could drop a album that got universal praise, came with hundred dollar bills in the CD case, shared the secret to happiness in the intro, and sucked your dikk when it finished playing. And nikkas on the coli would still make threads hating on it just to go against the grain :snoop:

No, not at all
I like the album for the most part, I deleted a few songs but I kept a lot of them.

It does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Illmatic, The Infamous, or 36 Chambers :laff:

And this album aside, his skill as an artist and his overall persona/image is not deserving of all this hype that he's receiving. There are quite a few "new" artists that are more skilled technically and stylistically - Freddie Gibbs first comes to mind. Kendrick's raps aren't special, his production is average, and his personality as an artist is

There's no reason he should have this much hype to be on all these music shows and gettin all this critical acclaim. It's one of the most obvious example of what good marketing can do for an average artist

Wow. Good album but not what people are making it out to be. Congrats to him anyways.
If you think about what his peers are releasing it’s by far the best effort in a while. You're only as good as your competition and since the majority of the industry is on the same dumb down shyt K. Dots material stands out even more.... I pardon some other artist out there also who have dropped good albums but didn’t have the hype behind them… This album is Hip Hop and its original because its believable and his life…

I dont place too much emphasis on these ratings. Like someone else said, money is thrown under the table in certain instances and rating do get revised later down the road.

But its good see an artist put out a dope major label debut that is just as good, if not better than their previous release.

Most artist are usually telling you how the album could have been better if they had time to clear samples, get the features they wanted, etc..but then turn around and ask you to go cop the album knowing damn well it should be better.

I'm just glad someone finally got it right and isnt hitting me with that learning on the job bullshyt :manny:

I don't get why we still care about their ratings. When I was younger and couldn't afford to listen to everything and one of my friends didn't cop the album, yea I would care about their rating, but now as an adult when I can, and probably have listened to everything they have reviewed I don't see the purpose of holding their reviews for some 'prestigious' standard. I knew when I heard this album the very first time it was a fukking problem. I didn't need someone to tell me that

The only thing that matters to me is the metacritic score if you want to talk about critical acclaim or the general consensus:yeshrug:

Even if Interscope is flexin their "marketing muscle" hard with Kendrick, I'm happy it's behind someone who I can actually call an artist who takes his music seriously. He put together a great piece of work - it deserves to be "pushed" just as hard as a Demi Lavato. It's about time.

If you are an older hip hop head like myself I can see why you would have a problem with having an album by a nikka who is young and does not typically fit the mold, being mentioned with classics.....you bring up Freddie Gibbs who I am a fan of as well....he dropped a hell of mixtape this year and has great standout tracks with the nikka MadLib....Ill expect his album to be a banger...Kendrick spits and he talks about some shyt on the album so I have to disagree when you say his raps are not special.....production on this album is crazy son....how is this average?? They are alot of hip hop heads who aint even heard of Kendrick Lamar so I dont know about that marketing story you trying to push bruh....and SMH @ "There's no reason he should have this much hype to be on all these music shows and gettin all this critical acclaim."...u gotta be fukking kidding me???....Kendrick been dropping heat....you sounding like a hater.....:whoa:
