Illmatic is probably the most hotly debated album on the Coli.

:wtf:

Nowhere near true, and even for the argument, it's about how classic it is, not whether it's a good album in the first place.

People are saying TPAB is a shyte album. lots of people. and lots of people say it's good/great. Totally different story.

nah. But nice try.

Where are the extreme reactions to Illmatic? Supreme Clientele? Doggystyle? :usure:

Come on, we talking about different eras... What forums would people have used 20 years to display these extreme reactions?

You honestly think if Illmatic or doggystyle came out today it would be universally loved? What album has dropped in the last 15 years that gets love like that?

TPAB has gotten as much critical acclaim as both of those albums with a few extreme reactions coming from random people on Internet forums or twitter, not coming from anyone notable or respected music critic or journalist

But like someone mentioned eariler, the fact that the album is still such a hot topic 10 months later let's you know it made an impact. No matter if you like it or hate it nobody is indifferent to it and that what music is supposed to do, make you feel some type of way

compare illmatic & doggystyle to an album that most people dont care about brehs.

and theres no universally loved albums like doggystyle coming out anymore because the quality is at an all-time low.

Nobody Cares about? :mindblown:

I don't care about Grammys personally , but you don't get nominated for 11 of them for an album no one cares about. I get why some people don't like it. But saying no one cares is a bit of a overstatement

But I agree with you about the quality of music overall now and that there won't be universally loved album because that just isn't how it us anymore. Once something starts getting a lot of love, people will dislike it just because everyone else loves it... We see it all the time

Actually I disagree. MBDTF was the Purple Rain of it's era. Almost every hip-hop album, had to do a reset after that album came out.
Sorry bro, you can't have that. :ld:

MBDTF in no way, shape, or form reinvented the wheel. Kanye said himself in a recent interview that MBDTF was the least progressive of all his albums.

forums didn't invent public opinion. People have been giving their opinion on albums long before internet forums and will do the same after.

If there was such a sharp contrast between lovers/haters on Illmatic/Supreme Clientele, we would have heard about it already.

You honestly think if Illmatic or doggystyle came out today it would be universally loved? What album has dropped in the last 15 years that gets love like that?

In answer to your questions, no and none. Because of one reason: the market for 'hip hop' is WAY bigger than it was 15 years ago. And unfortunately, far more fractured and diluted.

Hip hop now includes 95% posers (Black, White or whatever) who don't know shyt about the culture. It's basically urban pop or alternative indie rap. It wasn't like that 15 years ago because the market was much smaller. If you were into hip hop, you were into hip hop. You had no choice. It just wasn't accepted on a mainstream level like that so we were a community.

The listening base lack the basic hip hop knowledge and emotion to even feel Illmatic like that.

The critical acclaim for TPAB, MBTDF etc is phony and manufactured. and 99% of "acclaim" coming from cacs with no background in hip hop. I already posted about Rolling Stone.

It's not a hot topic because it warrants discussion. It's pops up because Interscope has a massive machine of paid critics, paid posters and woat stans who keep injecting Kendrick into everything.

Idiot... these white magazines don't even need a hip hop background to call TPAB & mbdtf 2 of the best albums ever made.... because they're not just talking about hip hop, they're talkign about EVERY MUSICAL genre... and I can confirm they know more about music than you will ever do.

And as a musician myself, I gotta agree with them;, these 2 albums are without any doubt 2 of the very best albums ever made, quality wise. Now if you don't agree thats cool, but the opinion of someone who doesn't know shyt about music, its history and its different musical genres (all of them) hold no weight. "We" (talking about peole with serious musical knowledge) really don't give a fukk about what you think. Enjoy what you want, it's ok to like fast food music.

and not just from people with respectable musical knowledge. Both MBDTF & TPAB are the consensus greatest albums of the decade (in any genre) on multiple platforms like RYM that only take people's rankings into account.
Matter of fact, these albums almost have the same rankings as Illmatic. then again some clowns will say this is the internet but then again, everybody has the internet : )

Not to mention that to pimp a butterfly has songs that people sing in protests, the album is being taught at some universities and is influencing lot of GOAT artists: Chuck D, Prince, David Bowie, etc, all of them said their new albums were influenced by it.

and its the same shyt for mbdtf, its influence on modern pop/rock music is undeniable.

These 2 albums will always be remembered as 2 of the greatest albums of this decade, either these clowns agree or not... what they think really doesn't mean shyt lol.
And lol at Doggystyle being universally loved.... I don't know a single person who loves it (its a classic though) so don't take this clown seriously... dude is obsiously just trying to defend his favorite artists.

:mjlol:

Textbook example of how arrogance and lack of knowledge go hand in hand.

I hope you're talking about you, because a "nonamer" like you is never gonna teach me anything about music... I was probably involved in the making of some of your favorite wack songs :mjlol:

if you're going to be condescending, at least use terms I can understand so I can feel the burn :russ:

wtf is a nonamer? Please don't say it's meant to be 'no namer' but you were too smart-dumb to spell correctly/proofread. That'll just be :snoop: :dead: considering how much smarter you say you are.

The praise of TPAB & MBDTF is well deserve and nothing about it is manufactured. Some goat artists are being influenced by these 2 albums and I'm already seeing their influence on a lot of indie & underground artists.

Not to mention that the music is beautiful and far superior than anything we have heard in hip hop music these last 5 years, objectively. The only albums that can compare are the ones from Frank, Tame Impala, Grime, alabama, etc.

It's not a coincidence if these 2 albums are only being compared to the greatest albums of the other genres.
