This was easily his second best album, I still dont understand the hate it got on release. Maybe the culture wasn't ready for that conversation at that time, people wanted party and bullshyt music and Kendrick was rapping about generational trauma.
As someone who didn't care for this album when it dropped I think it had more to do with expectations for me. I didn't expect this album to be a Play lol. The second half of the album gets pretty somber as well. Also we were coming out of a pandemic. I was trying to turn up. This album is the opposite of that. This is an album that I would have appreciated more during the pandemic. It took me about a year to really appreciate this album. I skipped the Big Steppers tour (which I regret now) because of this album.
I love the album now though. Although I do have it ranked lower in his discography.
Count Me Out is probably my favorite song from the album. shyt is angelic.
