This is and respectability politics are not mutually exclusive. You can believe all that happened and that now the onus is on black people to act more respectful to pull ourselves up. That is literally the gist of respectability politics--that what we went through ended in the 60s and that today's black people are just morally bankrupt. Kendrick was not delving into respectability politics, but those tweets prove nothing. That does not bolster your argument (which I largely agree with).

So its not hypocritical to weep for a black teen being shot in the street when he or many gangsters have at one point shot a black teen in the street and enjoyed it? Bullets don't have names, innocent civilians are killed in gang neighborhoods too.
