The D (where it's so cold)
This situation is more KG and Starbury than Penny and Shaq. Because like KG & Steph I don't think Durant and Westbrook will regret breaking up and I guarantee there will be shots fired this season because of their egos. KG was never that cool with Steph in the first place, I guess because of the SLAM cover back in the day and that they were winning and they did have alot of on court back and forth love people thought they were closer than they really were (keep in mind 99% of those daps and hugs were initiated by KG not Steph) . KG was closer to Malik Sealy, they were tight tight and had that sort of friendship most thought he had with Steph.

Steph and KG don't communicate at all now just like Durant and Westbrook.

Can you think of another situation where two Top 5 players were on the same team and 1 of them left voluntarily?

:ld:
Shaq/Penny

And to be fair, free agency as we know it hasn't really been around THAT long; add to that, it isn't often that one team has two of the top five players or even arguably the top five players on it at the same time. What are we looking at here? Since the 90s, Shaq/Penny, Shaq/Kobe, LeBron/Wade the first season (and LeBron obviously left there after Wade had fallen off), and KD/Westbrook. I may be missing a tandem in there but it's not really a fair question because of that.

Fans and media just WANT these guys to be friends, because they don't like recognizing that this shyt is just a job.

I don't get the sense that KD and Russ weren't friends. I just think sometimes you have a perfect situation that you can't so no to. I think there was a reason Durant said he laid in bed all day after signing with GS. It was probably between GS and OKC the entire time.

Was Penny ever a top 5 player or the same caliber as Westbrook?

He was first team All-NBA in '95-96.

Good point.

For what it's worth, Shaq said he regretted it.

I think Durant will too.

Ehh, it's tough to take Shaq at face value. He flip flops all the time to fit the situation.

Steph's a better player than Westbrook and much more unselfish too. Durant went there for a reason. OKC doesn't get enough blame for the Harden trade. That had to be in the back of his mind. The front office/ownership proved they have no loyalty to the players.

But do you ever think Penny was a top 5 player? 1st tem ALL NBA doesn't mean your automatically a top 5 player

Man, KD just got tired of Westbrook's antics on the court. Russ is a savage on the court but a lot of times he can play really ugly basketball down the stretch.
Yet kd was the reason why we lost games 5 and 6 makes sense
