So it’s less about Ant not being a role model and more about how players lives are more exposed these days than in the past and can easily be dissected.

Everybody will tell you stars were bigger back in the day because there was a mystery around the great players, movie stars, public figures.....etc. You didn't know so much about them.

I agree. That’s why a lot of people say social media has ruined certain celebrities because we know more about them than we should…and a lot of it is because of the shyt THEY posted themselves.

I think it’s more the ideal “face of the league” at least has the allusion of being a wholesome family man who is easily marketable to the casuals

ANT knows himself and that’s why I always assumed he talked about not wanting that crown and why LeBron said why would you want to be the face when that means getting chit on all the time

I get all that, and the truth is, the convo surrounding it is corny. The media wasn’t constantly posing the question of the next face of the league. Jordan was the biggest star, but there were always popular players. I do remember the “next Jordan” convos, but those were typically relegated to players who fit that MJ mold of athletic perimeter players. There were always multiple “faces” and they overlapped.

A few white people and Mexicans hated Kobe but he had WAY more love than hate worldwide

Nope… That rebrand with Nike coupled with his play on the court minus Shaq created the Black Mamba… Black men and women outside of LA thought Kobe was arrogant, a showboat and a ball hog… Then when he made the comment about Shaq buying hoes while being interrogated for rape threw.a lot of people off…. Even had Nas calling Kobe a c00n..

Juanita was a huge part of Jordan's marketing to women. :mjlol:

Yea but MJ was the face of the league before that tho. He basically became the face in 88 when he won the dunk contest and the 3’s dropped
