It dropped out the top 50 what, two weeks ago?
5 months in the top 50, and much of that time was in the top 20. What are we talking about. I call it a disappointment because after 5 years I assumed he was going to come out guns blazing with a big project similar to DAMN - not sonically perhaps, since he never does the same thing twice, but moreso in terms of intention (big records, anthems, etc). Remember his projections where higher and then fell, which to me said a portion of fans listened once or twice and then moved on (or focused on the 3-4 tracks they liked). So for him to drop an album with no hits, no songs that really seemed to resonate with the public, do 295k first week, stay high on the charts for months, and then do a sold out world tour...I'd not only call that a success but say the album had legs.
Did it do what I expected? No. I've said many times I assumed it would be doing Future numbers right now, but that was based on me assuming it would be a different (and frankly, better) album. Would I call it a disappointment coming off a 5 year wait? Hell yes I would. Do I think the label views it that way, with Kenny poised to gross 80mil off a tour? Nah.
