Kendrick's KONY line is irrelevant while Shawn Carter is still breathing.

The King of NY Crown has never been "Up for grabs" and has never been about "New and Up and coming Emcees". When Big was crowned King he DOMINATED the game. He passed so the crown passed with him but as long as Jay and NaS are living they have rights to the crown. The reality is that the crown rest on Big's corpse with Jay and NaS guarding The Doors. You ain't wearing that crown unless you a Hip Hop Legend. Therefor Kendrick isn't in that discussion. Dudes feeling his own hype a little to much. Let's see if he can hold up on that 2nd LP.

The Opposite Of Elliott Wilson's Mohawk
First of All. Like I stated many times. I only want facts. If you dislike his latest albums and think that the art piece was corny that's an Opinion. Others disagree. As far as business goes...I don't care about that. I spoke on record sales. Which no matter what anyone says...is relevant. Underground dudes are nice. But no one cares if they aren't in the mainstream. They have a smaller fan base. even if they're better lyrically. FACT.

I give you props for correcting me. Mainstream is a more appropriate way to explain Jay Z's rise in popularity in the 90's. but he has kept Hip Hop..Relevant in the mainstream now through his business moves. To totally dismiss his moves outside of hip hop and say that they haven't aided in keeping our beloved Genre one of the most talked about things in the news and on social media is irresponsible ignorant and dismissive.

As far as "Hip Hop shyt". I think you are confused. And have no idea what Hip Hop is. Jay drops knowledge and mathematics on MCHG. He tries to connect rap with Art again. Which while some may debate on if it was good or not..I commend him for trying to remind people of our connection to the arts. The city was Hip Hops canvas in the 80s. The 5 Pillars of hip hop rarely get notice by mainstream artists now days. Underground cats keep it real but you never see it with the big money artist. So I gave Jay props for that..when he didn't need to go around promoting this album while wearing a nation of gods and earths chain. People can discuss it's validity but the FACTS are that he put it out there...and no one except Wu Members consistently rep the 5%. A foundation for Hip Hop culture.

LET ME BE CLEAR. I WANT PROOF THAT SOMEONE OTHER THAN JAY IS THE KING OF NEW YORK. Prove that.

None of you have. So this is why I disagree with Kendrick's line. All you people have said is that Kendrick is a better lyricist...and section 80 is etc. and GKMC is classic. And I agree with that. But none of that makes him the king of the Home of Hova. Come on mu fukkas step ya posting up.

You say you want facts, but then keep posting your opinions. Its your opinion that greatness is measured by record sales. Its your opinion that "nobody cares" if youre not in the mainstream. It's your opinion that Jay has "kept it hip hop". Its your opinion that I have to factor his business moves into how I rank his music. Its your opinion that he connected rap and art (and didnt just use art as a new medium to brag about his wealth). Its your opinion that Jay is a 5%er because he dropped a handful of related lines on MCHG. So it seems to me like you are the one confusing your own opinion for facts, and in turn making your opinion undebatable. But literally every "fact" you put up is an opinion that is easy to debate/pick apart.

Like I said before, there is no KONY. Jay is the richest, most popular, highest selling artist who came up from NY, but he doesnt rep NY, outside of Barclays stadium, Williamsburg and the Columbia + NYU campuses. He's not at all involved in NY hip hop culture, he doesn't battle, he is not acting as a leader here, he has no ground level presence in the NY hip hop scene. nikkas from the hood cant see a Jay-Z concert, its too expensive. Hes not dropping mixtapes or really doing ANYTHING for the people/hip hop community that doesn't involve turning a profit. From the business side, I respect that. He's a hustler. But that shyt is not hip hop.

a hip hop"king' with one semi above average album (given the state of hip hop and his "competition") in comparison to the real king who's sold out shows when kendrick was going through puberty....took Elvis and the Beatles record and married Beyonce, and had her bear his child. Realistically I know that waking up and fukking Beyonce every other morning has nothing to do with being a Hip Hop titan....but then again...it has everything to with it. A Hip Hop King has to marry an equal Queen. Nobody in the game ever did that. Hov' came from the bottom of the bottom in the 70's and 80's when THEY were blatantly trying their hardest to wipe out an entire race of people through poverty and drugs. He escaped that, dominated an entire era....not just by himself, but his ENTIRE TEAM. His peers were Big, Nas, Big L, Busta, AZ! And these weren't RAP PEERS....these were nikkas he went to school with....smoked L's with...had convos about fukking bytches with. And it wasn't for cameras either....they were all bredren. This is a fukking KING. THENNNN on top of that the nikka comes back to Brooklyn almost two decades later....WITH A fukkING NBA TEAM....blocks away from where he used to served dope.

WHAT THE fukk HAS KENDRICK LAMAR REALLY DONE?!?!?! He's cool with Schoolboy Q and Ab Soul....he had an OK album....other than that...he's a herb.

What King chills with his peasants? again..nikka. go to webster. look up the definition. Dudes want Hov to be everything to them. Truely the God MC. Want him to wipe ya ass for you while selling out stadiums. Wants a dude worth millions chillin on Sedgwick and cedar slinging rocks. You nikkas are too much. But alright..for the points you made and your personal attacks to me...leeeets go.

1. To say that sales are relevant isn't my opinion. if you read what I said..it's an unfortunate truth. If sales didn't matter...MJ isn't the king of Pop. The Beatles aint shyt. I could go on and on. There is no mystery why those who are considered the greatest sell millions of records. That's a fact. If you disagree go jump off a bridge nikka ..never talk about music again.

2. To be outside of the mainstream for whatever reason...mean's that most of the population don't know who you are. Meaning that most people don't care about you because they don't know who you are. Fact.

3. I never said YOU have to consider his business moves in relation to his music. You stated that Jay Z was mainstream. I agreed. But It's a fact that he has stayed Relevant since he debuted. His business moves have helped him stretch his relevancy over a 10+ year period. That's again a Fact. Through endorsements, Shoes, Using stadiums and sports teams etc. FACT.

4. It's not my Opinion that he used art as a medium to sell his album. It's a fact. He had a special on HBO about his 6 Hr exhibit at Pace Gallery. I didn't fabricate that...there's proof that he did this of his own volition. And I said that he's continued something that many artist have forgotten and don't bother with. Acknowledging the art community. There was a time when hip hop, punk and other music genre's were in their infancy and were directly connected with art. especially in NYC. Yet again. A Fact. Not my opinion.

5. I did not say that Jay Z was a 5%. I said he wore the chain and was representing the nation of gods and earths. Not once stated he was a member. And I said that some question the validity of it. And I will include myself. But the FACTS are...that he used the chain and the lines in his album. We all knows this to be true. So don't twist my words. A FACT again.

Reading comprehension brehs....learn it.

Don't let your emotions get the best of you my friend. And when you quote someones post you should actually read it.

As far as the rest of it. Your wish list for Hov I'll call it....I think it's amusing. I'd like to see every artist battle and go from hood to hood handing out bread and free jordans and shyt in my case a Tax Free IRA. But that's not reality. So keep wishing. Those things aren't done by Royalty in any era in any country.

So ..who's next? ..And can someone state a competent argument without getting butt hurt and taking shots at me for calling them out on their insecurities and biased opinions. Prove that K Dot is the King if you feel that way nikkas. I made my argument for Hov.

I can state with completely confidence that K. Dot is better than Jay-Z right now....We can make a poll to see if my opinion is an outlier...

You can make a Jay vs Solja Boy thread on the Coli and Jay will still lose. That dont mean shyt

For me, Kendrick isnt good enough to clean the dust off Jay's crown, let alone wear it

Why are people bringing up Hov's accomplishments outside of rap to justify why he is king of NY? The last time I checked..it was just about the music...

When BIG had the title he was dominating as a rapper, putting out classic music...he wasn't no business mogul...that was Puff.

There are a lot of wack musicians that have sold a lot of records. Jay isnt quite that bad, but hes def not the best right now, for nothing other than record sales.

2. To be outside of the mainstream for whatever reason...mean's that most of the population don't know who you are. Meaning that most people don't care about you because they don't know who you are. Fact.
Not being known doesn't keep you from being great.

FACT.
If he had to just rely on the music, its possible he would be relevant... thus coming back to my point... that musically, he hasnt been the best to do it in a long time

He shot a music video in an art gallery. And he only refers to fine art as another object representing his wealth. The connection is not deep. Nothing like, for example, the heavy funk influence on post-punk bands like Gang of Four or James White and the Blacks, or the actual groundbreaking collaboration between Fab 5 Freddie and Blondie (for better or worse). Jay is using art solely as a marketing medium, there is no "depth" to his use of it. Plus in any case, this post is the first time you mentioned Jay using art to sell records... before he was connecting art and rap... you need to make up your mind...

A handful of lines on an album that is pretty much a celebration of conspicuous consumption is hardly "dropping knowledge". There are still plenty of 5%ers rapping, but since they aren't popular it doesn't matter. But when Jay does it all of a sudden we have to bow to the most high :pachaha:

Like I said there is no KONY. Jay doesnt have to battle every Tom dikk and Harry but he has spent a few too many years acting like he is above the culture to be considered a leading figure in it.

If your illiterate ass could read you would notice that plenty of posters have used music to justify Jay as the king of NY
