Flying Lotus Details His "To Pimp A Butterfly" Involvement

Basically he didn't get a lot of credit for his role for the album, along with Kenny broadie'ing FlyLo over his beats:scust:. Can't look at Kenny the same since that shyt is a sore spot with me. Producers need to get paid regardless, damn this free sampling/taking the entire tray shyt.
all i got from that was the hoarding of his beats and he said it like he gave it to em on some “fukk it” shyt. :yeshrug:

There was alot to digest. Many different styles of music. No singles. shyt was NOT put out for teen white fans in suburbia to enjoy. You almost have to be at least 28 and black to feel some of the shyt that he was talking about it. It wasn't the usual shoot 30 nikkas and do drugs shyt the common mainstream rap fan is into. I mean some might not like it because it just didnt hit them but this album took alot of hate because white kids and turn up heads aint like it. Plain and simple:yeshrug:

honestly a lot of black Kendrick fans hated this album. I was a Jr at an hbcu when it dropped an everyone was like how can the best rapper out drop a jazz album no lie I'm not exaggerating. only a hand full of us enjoyed it. i swear i think more white people were praising it than black people outside of Alright more white people may know the lyrics to other songs on that album than black people. I think TPAB gets the same amount of hate and praise from both sides for different reasons though

Some of my friends didn't like the album. I think they were expecting GKMC part 2. But they only listen to current and street shyt when it comes to rap. But IMO if your not a fan of rap acts like Little Brother, Tribe, Dilla, mos def, the roots, common, Talib, etc the album would turn you off. It's not an album you can get off first rip. There's layers to the shyt and it needs to be properly digested.

he didnt get credit because kendrick didnt use all the beats, but flylo says "i'll probably use them for something else" which is what you are supposed to do. lol, it's like people just want to be misinformed so they can hate these days.

Why does every album have to be considered classic so soon? :what:

I don't know if I've said this before, but I feel like Kendrick was overshadowed by the production on this album. Musically, this was undoubtedly his best work. "The Blacker the Berry" is still the best song I've ever heard from him. He snapped on that track. :gladbron:

I still listen to this album and have a connection with every song. It may be every couple of months but I can let it ride while in traffic. Hell my son still listens to it.

I haven't heard the album in a long time....not that it means its trash but TPAB is a mood album and its not something I can just put on at anytime.

It's a great album regardless...but Section 80 will always be my favorite Kendrick album.

The album has actually gotten better with age to me. Once the hype and the think pieces etc died down being able to just listen to the album at random and take it in has continued to build my appreciation.

It's not an album you can really pick random songs out of to listen too and is better listened to as whole - I think this is what put a lot of people off in the generation of playlists.
