I haven't looked at all the details but the judge from the video seems to have jumped to an unreasonable conclusion. It sounds like the family is relenting this fear their daughter has as something NEGATIVE...A result from the trauma of the home invasion. If the robber had on a bunny rabbit costume she'd probably be afraid of rabbits too. No reason to shame a family of victims for acknowledging the results a criminals actions had in their toddler.

The only reason i can see this judge taking personal offense is if he thinks the family is just pandering or making it up to appeal to the judge. Ie: would they have included that statement if the judge wasn't black?

stop it. The same efforts to mention having black friends, should have been the same effort to mention their efforts to address the daughter's fear

The family attempted to play on the instilled fear of some black folks to being held accountable as a race, for the action of individuals. Had the judge suffered from that poisonous mentality, he would've taken this opportunity to do some extreme BS to prove a point

Instead he took a measured and honest approach in addressing the common and careless stereotyping. He indirectly challenged the parents willingness to mention the fear the kid has, while not mentioning their own efforts in addressing the illogical fear of the daughter

The mere fact the parents mentioned having "black friends," assumed to be apart of the family prior to the burglary, further proved that they were trying to play on the instilled fear by some black folks because "friends" suddenly are not viewed suspiciously because of the acts of others

Just like when a kid has a nightmare, bullied by a kid of the same race, or are afraid of some costume during halloween, in most cases, reasonable approaches are taken to address each situation. But once a black person is involved, then the entire race needs to be held accountable is the epitome of white supremacist ideologies

Look at how many assumptions you made in this reply. You've constructed your narrative based on a few sentences because it most likely fits into your already existing greater world view. You're assuming an individual's motivations which. You could be right, but you're way too certain in your opinion when you have very little to base it on. Its common fo victims to lament the after affects of a criminal's actions during sentencing. Can you even admit is possible they're referencing an unfortunate hardship they have to deal with that the didn't before? Is it possible for you to even consider this?

I'm not making no assumptions. Judging an entire race based on the acts of individuals commonly happen to black folks in order to justify stereotypes and racist ideologies, no matter what the situation

Being a victim of something does not mean you are excused from being a rational human being. The parents did not have to inject such filth in their report, they chose to for a reason

How many times have we heard about how "good" the majority of the police officers are in the country, during a news coverage about another murder of a black male by a police officer. One of the reasons for such claims is to reinforce that we should not judge the entire police departments based on the acts of a few. But that same hard stance gets watered down, when it comes to black folks

Agreed, if we're talking about adults. Children build associations that aren't rational and require correcting. We're talking about a 3 year old remember.

I addressed the fact it is a child already

Why do you assume reasonable approachesa aren't being taken? Is your position that the family has thrown up their hands and said "well looks like our 3 year old is doomed to fear black people for her whole life." what evidence is there to say that?

All the statement said was that the little girl is dealing with a phobia that wasn't there before and it's a direct result of the trauma from this home invader. Why should this admission automatically villainze the family?
If this was a mother saying her daughter fears older men after being molested by a stranger would you be as critical of her too?

Again, no assumptions are made. The parents chose to make it a race issue by injecting that ridiculous logic into their argument. They felt justified and comfortable making a correlation between the perpetrator in this incident and every other black person

We have never heard of a white person being a victim of an act, disowning their entire race because the perpetrator happens to be white. But yet we have heard such foolishness and the variants, towards blacks

If the parent would've included such statement like the kid can not sleep at night or the kid has issues staying in the home because of the incident, then the judge would not have reacted that way. We wouldn't be debating about this because that kind of reaction would be common and a logical reaction that transcends all racial borders

This is where we don't agree. The parents aren't making the correlation. The 3 year old is. They noticed that AFTER this dude broke into their home, she began to act differently around black people which is something she didn't do before. Thats not demonizing a race. Answer the last question I asked about the mother with a daughter who was sexually assualted and fears men now. Would she be making a correlation between a molester and all men, or just describing a change her daughter is dealing with as a result of trauma?

A 3 year old can make the correlation that a magic bug gives her money anytime her tooth falls out and she puts it under her pillow. No need to include a 3 year old's correlation unless the parents believe that it was justified and it would help their case in some way

a female sexual assault victim having trust issues towards men, while still dating them, is different than being afraid of men and choosing to stay away from them

Have you ever heard a female sexual assault victim choosing to be gay because of the perpetrator being a man? How common is that, if it ever happened at all. That female would need to be susceptible to being attracted to women prior to the sexual assault. So the parents were susceptible to white supremacist ideologies prior to the incident, thus why they felt justified including such filth to the courts

So you believe this white family was trying to convince a black judge that their kid's fear of black people is justified....ok. I think that doesn't make logical sense but agree to disagree.

A female sexual assault victim in this case is a child who is currently uncomfortable around adult men. I work in the mental health field so I've seen this scenario in real life. It is a response to the trauma. Stating that fact isn't damning all adult men, its just pointing out how a child was affected.
