The difference being Carmelo had a role and he did it well. Did he win a title, no, but you can’t say he didn’t go out there and do his job.
Did Kenyon Martin perform well in his role? No he didn’t. So his role fell down to get easy buckets from Jason Kidd. That’s all he was good for. And doing that shyt ain’t gonna lead to a title. He just became a name. If your role on a team is to get easy baskets due to someone else then shut the fukk up. You ain’t qualified to speak on anyone.
Draymond role wasn’t to score. He was out there to defend, distribute, and antagonize. Can you win a title with that type of player as your main guy, no you can’t. But that type of guy can be pivotal to you winning a title if he is with the right stars.
I can’t say KMart could do anything that contributes to a title that others couldn’t. I can say that about Draymond.
Naaah we not doin that. Kenyon was the 2nd leading scorer on a back to back finals squad. We not gon diminish that to just some bum catching lobs from Jason Kidd.
2nd j Kidd and richard Jefferson is not Steph and klay. If you put Kenyon on those GS teams, nothing changes historically warriors win it all over again. If you put Draymond on those nets team have a huge hole scoring and don’t make the finals.
Which leads me to the heart of this discussion that I don’t think y’all realize: ANY player is qualified to be a role player. It’s a matter of accepting that and sometimes it doesn’t make sense to accept that. Look at James harden. It didn’t make sense to accept role player. But if you’re Draymond green? Sure! Of course he’s a perfect role player. The ngga had no choice! Even all-time level role players had to get theirs in their prime before they accepted a role: Shawn Marion, Ron Harper, Mark Aguirre, Iguodala, etc
Long story short: stop talking like Draymond being a role player was some crazy skill. It wasn’t. He had no choice
