I can tell you've never seen Kershaw pitch or pick up bat. He's an exceptional athlete at his position. Pitching is one of the more specialized things you can do in sports.

You don't have to be a world reknown superstar to make big money in baseball. He's a great player but exposure wise he's a D-List athlete. You wouldn't know him if he walked up to you. And yet, he's getting paid more per year than Kobe, Bron, Peyton, Brady, Messi, Ronaldo...

exposure really depends on the player's marketability and image tho

tim lincecum is and yet most of non-baseball america knows him better than someone like kershaw or cano.

Works out for the dodgers. Contract ends just when his prime should start to decline. If hes opt outs then you got 5 great years out of him.
Hes worth the per year average but djd at 30mm a year
