Kevin Durant: Defense wasn't better in the 80s/90s, they just got away with flagrant fouls

They did in 04, and the Association needed Lebron to fly, so they moved in the fences :youngsabo:

Game was played that way back then so can’t just apply today’s game to that situation
Right. There was a time you couldn’t dunk. He might as well say they weren’t aggressive at the rim. The way that assists were counted in the 50/60s was not a thing in the 80s. Rules change. The game evolves.

Above the fray.
Lotta Colinikkas gonna come in here bashing KD while providing zero legitimate counters to his argument
KD has said openly that it is easier to score the latter half of his career than the earlier half. Rulebook and enforcement of it gives advantage to perimeter plays now.

What KD calls flagrant fouls was just the physical nature of earlier eras. "They weren't defending, they were fouling" sounds funny. Michael Jordan would laugh at this.

He's not lying, you were just allowed to physically beat the dogshyt out of people. You can't even really do that shyt on most playgrounds anymore without fight starting.

Statement doesn’t make sense as the criteria for what’s a flagrant foul was different then that what it is now. So when KD says that it’s a ‘flagrant foul’, he’s referring to the modern (soft?) understanding of the foul. It wouldn't have been a ‘flagrant foul’ by the old standard. KD doesn’t realize this but in an ironic way he’s just confirming the belief that the modern nba is softer.
