These young dudes hustling backwards. They're lickin shots at the media but in the moments where it really counts, the guns start jamming. MJ had to deal with the media blaming his dad's death on him but what he do? played face with them but got even where it counts (on the court during Championship trophy ceremonies, Hall of Fame Speech, etc.)

I honestly think all this barkin at the media shyt is these boys knowing deep down inside they don't have the fortitude to win when it counts. The media frustrates them because they hold the mirror up when shyt ain't goin they way.

I like OKC but these nikkas startin to look funny in the light.
:dahell: mike ran his azz to bumfukk,USA playing baseball. He picked up his ball and went home cuz of media pressure

Now Mamba on the other hand. When management was telling Bean to sit out the year Kobe was like:childplease: Styling on Shaq and anyone that pissed him off. Kobe swag was epic in 04

fukk you mean? They actually report on what's going on. There's a difference between reporters and columnists.
Fukk I mean is I ONLY care about watching the game and a gathering stats, the fukk a beat writer or reporter have to do with that? I think most people know the difference between a reporter and columnist, I thought it was pretty obvious by mentioning that I don't need a beat reporter or writer that I don't need a columnist (I did mention ESPN personalities in which many double up as columnist)

Durant has been my favorite player for some years now and he's had moments like this. My issue is that I wanna see more of this ON THE COURT. I want this same attitude when Westbrook is acting like a kamikaze. I want this same attitude when he's facing Lebron head up. Talk shyt to that man, damn all that buddy buddy shyt. There's not a doubt in my mind that if Durant had gotten ugly with Bron the 2012 Finals would have went totally different.

KD a savage on the court since MVP year, he been doing all this since then. The finals tho, refs took him out of every game for the most part, stayed in foul trouble. If he didn't pick up 2 early fouls almost every game I wonder how that series goes

Nothing tricky about it.

Without sports media the athletes would still make money through advertisement and league owned stations

Without the athletes, sports media makes zero money. Every sports reporter owes every dollar they make to the athletes.

lol @ this nonsense...it's a symbiotic relationship...sports media needs sports to exist so it has something to cover...athletes need media to exist so that they can promote them and keep their game in the public's eyes

advertisers aren't flocking to promote athletes if no one is covering them and no one is talking about them and they aren't in the public conciousness.

where is money coming from if there are no billion dollar tv revenues?

people really have no clue how advertising and television works if you think a lack of coverage can't destroy a product.

dumb ass people out here think the media is necessary in 2015 :mjlol:

25 years ago if you wanted to know about an athletes favorite food you would have to read it in a :flabbynsick: newspaper. now i can just tweet an athlete and get a response.

the media was the middle man between the fans and the athletes but the internet crushed the buildings and now cacmedia is :sadcam:

so in your world players should answer millions of twitter followers questions as the go between?

and if this happens why would ESPN or ABC or CBS or any other station continue to carry the games if they are getting nothing in return? If they are getting no access to players and no way to create other shows to help build their revenue stream through advertisements they will stop paying league money to broadcast their game. You don't seem to understand how the business model works. For the most part media coverage is free advertisement for teams and leagues. A few bad articles here and there creating "controversy" actually ends up being better for the league because the casual fan gets interested and is intrigued and pays attention to the sport.

The media for the most part doesn't exist for hardcore sports fans that just watch the games on tv...you guys don't make them money. They are trying to entertain the casual fan that hears it's cool and will pay for tickets and the kids that will beg parents for jerseys.

Individual players can hate the media or feel they've been treated unfairly or feel it's silly and they all have a point. But this is entertainment. It's nothing more than that. People are looking for a show. Hardcore fans that love the game...the leagues don't give a fukk about them. They will always have them. The media is something the leagues love because it allows them to attract a larger more diverse audience that can generate REVENUE. It's about money. If the media wasn't helping the leagues would've stopped them long ago.

Networks will carry the games because that's what people want to see. What is ESPN going to run in the place of an NBA or NFL game and get similar ratings? Air hockey? Derrick Rose is damn near a mute and when he does speak its mumbled garbage. Now explain to me how the media asking him questions is doing more to drive his popularity than what he actually does on the court.

Because you are already a fan of the NBA. You like the game. The league already has you. They want the media to keep them in the eye of people that aren't fans that can put more money in their pockets. It's a business. And ESPN won't EXIST if they can't talk to players. How are they going to fill 24 hours of content if they have no information from the players and no material to fill their shows?

And networks won't carry games if they have 0 access to the players. The actual telecast and the ad revenues from that are okay. But not worth the billions they pay alone. They need those hour long pre game shows to sell more ads and drive more revenue. To fill those shows they need storylines and quotes from players.

In a world where players don't talk to the media at all there will be no coverage and no hype and no way to generate interest outside of people who just like the games. And honestly...most of a professional leagues revenue doesn't come from people who watch all the games and only like the games. TONS of people just watch some games and they need people to tell them what happened in the games that they missed. They want to hear what players have to say about wins and losses. Just because you don't fit into that market doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If people didnt' want that stuff then it wouldn't continue to draw ratings and exist.

I think there's way too much access and way too much coverage. I have no problem with cutting the access back...there's no need for so many interviews and the media scrum is insane. But, there has to be a happy medium. Just cutting off altogether doesn't benefit ANYONE.

So I'll ask again. What will ESPN air instead that will get ratings compared to an NFL or NBA game?

I addressed that. ESPN WON'T EXIST. It will disappear as an entity. They cannot sustain their business model with no access to players at all. Therefore they won't broadcast games. Therefore these leagues will have to find somewhere else to broadcast them and those networks have other options and no reason to bow down to the league with nothing in return. It's bad business for the league.

All this theoretical shyt you're arguing is really for no reason. KD talks to the media and makes it clear he won't stop since it's part of his job description.

He's just gonna take a different approach. Athletes might have to talk to the media but the media don't get to dictate how they do so and what they say.

Nor should they. I am not arguing that in any way what so ever. I'm fine with athletes not liking the media. That's fine. Everyone can feel how they want to feel. My original point was that the media is basically free advertisement and if they were more savvy with it they could make themselves more bread. The media and athletic leagues should exist cohesively in a way to grow the leagues and ultimately the revenue. The combative nature of it has become disappointing and should be cleaned up. There's ways to allow access and reporters to do their job but also not have players talk so often that they run out of anything to say.

It won't ever be like that because the athletes feel the media will put a negative spin on their words and create a narrative that makes them look bad for the sake of a story/internet hits.

And they're justified in those feelings.
