I think KD had something really traumatic happen to him as a child that he never fully recovered from. It was weird as hell how he was addressing his Dad at his MVP speech in contrast to how he addressed his Mom. Childhood trauma would explain a lot of his behavior.

When you take that into consideration his behavior starts making more sense.
