But if you look at it from a complete basketball standpoint, I believe the the Warriors got much worse than better. Gutted their bench and added another guy that needs the ball in his hands to be effective. They have no depth and no interior defense at all. This roster will get you 60+ wins in the regular season, but come playoff time, this fact will hurt them. I got the Cavs in 7
Excellent. Then if they win the championship this year, you will especially respect it because they did what you doubted they would do.
As far interior defense, they actually have better rim protection than the Cavs do and we don't talk about their lack of a rim protector. Draymond is regularly underrated for his elite work protecting the paint.
Durant does not need the ball in his hands to be effective - he was assisted on 55% of his baskets last season in a much less creative offense, and the Warriors actually need a dominant iso scorer in their offense for the playoffs aside from just Curry. There is no "another guy" that needs the ball in his hands to be effective when Curry/Klay are two of the greatest off ball scorers in league history and the team runs an equal opportunity offense where everyone touches the ball
Adding a guy like Durant means they can stagger lineups and have one of Curry/KD/Klay/Green on the court at all times. That makes the bench better, and they already have Iguodala/Livingston/West who would be great depth pieces anywhere in this league. It's too premature to write off prospects like Clark, Looney, McCaw (very promising), McGee as contributors.
They do have need of center depth, but no team is without their flaws and this will just have to be one for them unless the rookie Jones is able to step in.
