No doubt a black QB would never get that kind of deal with so little resume but we were fukking DESPERATE for a starter quality QB at that time. And the Jimmy from 2017 was a lot more mobile so everyone was OK with giving him a long term deal because he was finally a QB we could build on.
The money we gave him took everyone aback too but then we learned we could cut him after year three and we had a lot of cap space so it wasn't hurtful at the time. In 2017 we weren't thinking Superbowl, we just wanted a team that was worth a damn. shyt, we weren't thinking Superbowl in 2019, that run kinda happened out of nowhere.
As you said, it just shows how the bar is so low when you are desperate to get something going. If we are able to get a good pick out of him it's gonna be the same process for the team that gets him too.
Never liked it. You end up living in qb purgatory with moves like that.
