Turned off to Mike’s music once he started getting cozy with politicians.

Same.

Dude was literally behind the scenes taking bread from Republican politicians in GA, who wanted to ban black history books and close independent black businesses. But then he gets in front of the camera and acts like he's a revolutionary. Bro is wild for that. One of the most fraudulent MC's in the game today, and that's saying a lot.

I see what you're saying no doubt, but it's just the normal for them though.
They just highly never reward an artist for commercial success and dump awards on them unless you look like Adele or Taylor Swift, at which point they'll shove them all in your face and they clean up.

The year Outkast won Album of the Year for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was the same year Get Rich or Die Tryin' came out.

In Da Club, 21 Questions, etc. ran through everything yet it wasn't even nominated for Album of the Year
All it's singles lost that year that year as well in whatever category they were nominated.
50 Cent didn't even win Best New Artist (Evanescence won)

The sly shyt is when they'll give someone like Beyonce "Urban Contemporary Album of the Year" and broadcast that award before Album of The Year to Adele/Beck or something.

They dogging a lot of Black artists who've had big years, culturally-moving years the same way time and time again.
They'll shower Taylor Swift and Adele with Grammy's for doing it though.
by that logic, Morgan Wallen woulda had song and record of the year for Last Night

May have if Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, etc. weren't going for the same award and/or the year was full of mainly large hits by successful non-white artists.

Nas never campaigned except for a little bit with Life Is Good.

Campaigning doesn’t guarantee a win all it does is put you on people who may not know you’s radar, there still has to be a certain passion or narrative for you to win. Traditionally the “narrative” is most albums sold OR a combination of sales and critical acclaim (no rap album has ever won based on critical acclaim alone)

Killer Mike’s profile has risen over the past decade due to his RTJ work, and no matter how you feel about RTJ, its been a BOON for his career. Its led to Netflix shows, placements in big budgeted movies and tv series, and Emmy wins. All of that more than likely led to his sweeping as the “overdue” factor was strong with him. Killer Mike basically led the greatest “Little Engine That Could” wave in Grammy history, and I don’t mean that as a diss in the slightest its actually impressive as hell when you break down how Mike is actually the ONLY rapper ever to win with an uncertified album and an album that debuted outside the top 20. Black Thought couldn’t do that. Common couldn’t do that. Big Boi couldn’t do that. De La Soul couldn’t do that. A Tribe Called Quest couldn’t do that. Lupe couldn’t do that. And these were all artists on Major labels at the time (except for De La I believe) who couldn’t crack the code, but Killer Mike did it against Drake & 21 (Most popular) Travis Scott (Highest seller) Metro Boomin (Mainstream breakthrough artist) and Nas (Highest acclaimed) thats crazy impressive no matter how you look at it

Personal feelings aside (There’s NO reason Nas shouldn’t have won) Killer did the damn thing. He made TRUE Garmmy history in a manner that was more impressive than Taylor Swift winning her fourth AOTY even though he’ll get only a third of the Press for it

You say it's crazy, but just reeks of lobbying the grammy committee.

It's like with the best reggae album category. Anytime a marley makes an album they win it, not just because of quality but because of the relationships they have.

I don't have a dog in this fight but Killer Mike sweeping the hip hop grammys is crazy

and he had the most success out of all of them. That shyt is STILL #1 now. He didn't even get nominated.

It's tough to gauge that room. Now that there's more Black representation in those rooms, the fact that these things still happen, you have to wonder what's going through their minds.

Before, we could just be like "fukk those cacs in those rooms." Harvey Mason was out here tryna justify why The Weeknd didn't merit the coronation of an evening he deserved for After Hours. Anytime a rap category goes wrong, we're pointing the finger at 9th Wonder. Subjective voting is tough to figure out unless you're there.

Yeah it's definitely complicated.

However it almost is never too complicated when certain artists have those same types of big years. That's all I'm saying: the goal posts always seem to be easier to move around when it comes to certain artists/people.

Then you have someone like Taylor Swift: 6 times nominated for Album of the Year and 4 wins for Album of the year.
One year it's because she sold the most, the next year it's because of "music quality" even though she didn't finish top 3 in sales.

Yeah I recall reading articles around the time when Stacey Abrams was running and I didn’t like how he was moving at all. It’s one thing to tell people to vote for a candidate but to campaign along with them, like hitting the road and photo ops? Nah dawg, now you’re entering some seedy territory.

Truth.

The Republicans used him to go out and talk sh*t about a black woman running for office. They gave dude bread, and then came out and said he was lobbying for them. When everybody started asking him about it, he would dodge the question and say he "wasn't political" while literally campaigning against the black people who were trying to get more black people from the community out to register and vote. Black businesses in the spots of GA that he's called home, were closed down because of the people he helped to get back in office.

He's a self-hater for sale, who pretends to be the opposite and for "the people" in his music, but will sell out his own in a second, if he's paid to. Straight clown and a fake.
